Prob not (since she wants to be a Blue Angel) but it would be cool to say she had an appointment there as well. Different application for the CG Academy from all the others, no congressional appointments there.

We both are encouraging her to also apply to USCGA also

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." The OR Democrat Senator gave her a letter for USNA

Update!!

Bright and early this morning I received a phone call

She has been offered a spot at the Naval Academy Prep School (NAPS) in Newport, RI

She now has a huge decision to make since she’s been offered a full ride through ROTC at Mississippi State

But seriously... Go with NAPS. She has great options either way.

Congratulation to that outstanding young woman. She's a star with a bright future. Hard to turn down any of those fine schools. Merchant Marine has one big advantage ... pay. It would be an honor to attend any of them.

I went to NAPS. It is how got to USNA. If going to a service academy matters to her go to NAPS. It’s guaranteed. If you get through you get in. It is also an attitude adjustment because NAPS isn’t like OCS or ROTC. Feel free to contact me if you have questions. Pete

Sounds like the USNA wants her bad; I’d be inclined to encourage her to accept.

FWIW, our daughter was offered both USNA and USAFA. She attended the summer program at USAFA because she has an aptitude for language and the Air Force runs the DLI in Monterey. That was a mistake. She came home saying, “This is not for me.” That academy was kind of in turmoil at that time, and I don’t think she was made to feel welcome.

Soon after I talked to her ALO from the USNA, a USMC major that I really liked. He said, “I wish she had come to Annapolis; she’d would’ve liked it here.” To be fair, I also really liked the Air Force Academy’s ALO.

So she's received an appointment?

No. Offered a spot at the Prep School… which assuming she completes the 10mth program she will have one the following year

She, her mother and I will be speaking this evening. She already realizes she is behind in the sciences at her current school. I believe if she truly wants to go to USNA this is the way to go. She can also use another year to mature more. USNA sees something in her

We will support whatever decision she makes

Do you all believe she will not receive an appointment this spring?

If they are giving her a slot to NAPS then the NA is not going to give her an appointment this year. Accepting NAPS won't keep her from receiving an appointment from the other service academies. Interesting point, the Coast Guard Academy is statistically the hardest one to get into (way smallest class). Very cool campus especially when the Eagle is tied up pier side.

Well, being a local (to USNA, not NAPS), I vote for NAPS. Just means you’ll have to wait another year for the drink I promised to buy you on page 1.
