Also, the Leftists are aware that we are tracking the ratings and pointing to this as a sign that we are right. In the very short term, I would expect some people who are otherwise completely uninterested in football to tune in, simply to try to offset the declining ratings.

Don't you think this is all about curiosity? People tuned in to see some shit happen. That's not going to last, not at all.

I sure hope so. The Cowboys are usually a ratings booster as they have an extremely loyal fan base, so it could be that too. I don't really know enough about how the ratings work really. If you tune in for 10 minutes do you count as having "watched" the game?

I will certainly be interesting to see what happens next week.

And yes, you're right, some folks will short term watch to "help," but they will fade quickly for sure.

We'll know when the NFL starts courting different advertisers in order to make the short term relief last a little longer. That probably won't last long either.

Here is a former NFL great who gets it.
NFL Great Burgess Owens: Anthem Protest Result Of Liberal Ideology That Destroyed The Black Family

Former NFL safety Burgess Owens appeared on Tucker Carlson Tonight to discuss the current NFL kneeling controversy. Owens said this is not a black or white American problem, "it's a Democratic, elitist problem." Owens called on players to stand up against the corporate and liberal elites in the NFL who are "using my race."

"My concern with this whole process is what the flag stands for," Owens said Monday night. "When I stood on the sideline I remembered getting teary-eyed at points because I was so excited about being there, I was so proud to be part of that process. But I also grew up in a time where 70% of black men were mentors to us. They were in the home, doing things they needed to do, teaching us that this country is the greatest place to be and to grow in."

"We have come to the point because of liberalism, because of what Democratic policies do, 70% of black men do not stay around. They don't have these parents and these fathers to tell them what they should be proud of and how they should stand up for this process," the former New York Jet said.

"We are dealing with an ideology that first of all bans God, has destroyed the black family in the '70s which we led the country in terms of the strength of our family unit," Owens told host Tucker Carlson. "They have destroyed our history. No one even knows about how strong the black American history was. And now they want to take away our pride in our country. And I think it's a bridge too far."

"At the end of the day, we love our country and we're going to make sure we stand against those who take away the hope of our kids. That's what these liberals are doing," Owens argued.

Owens also said if an employee decided to demonstrate during work time they would come back and find their desks empty.

"The NFL corporate office right here in New York City. How about their employees on lunchtime decided they decided they wanted to demonstrate. They'll finally come back and find out their desks would be vacated. Any day. This is what is happening, liberals at the top, elitists, they are using my race, they are bringing misery to my race and then using this misery to make sure they keep their power," Owens said.

"We need to make sure that we're standing against corporate elitists, liberal elitists like the NFL," he said. "I will be boycotting every single team that does this. But we also have as black conservatives get into the black community and let them see what the Democratic party has for years done to them. It's not a white American problem; it's a Democratic, black and white, elitist problem."

I used to watch baseball and buy merchandise until they went on strike. I was done. Now the NFL can piss off. I am so done with the victim mentality. I laugh at the Dallas coach that stood then took a knee....how accepting and non divisive...a joke. He could just curtsy and make everyone happy. I am PRO military and have family that got fucked up fighting for this country. It's inexcusable this shit was ever entertained by the NFL.

A survey by Remington Research Group found that 64 percent of voters agree with President Trump and want players to stand for the anthem. The survey also found that 80 percent of voters want less politics in sports, while 51 percent say they are watching less football than in previous years.

Among those watching less football, 69 percent pointed to “Players using the NFL as a stage for their political views” as the primary reason why.

The survey appears to contradict the popular media narrative that public opinion was on the side of the players kneeling during the anthem. ESPN’s day-long coverage of Trump and the NFL on Monday was almost exclusively negative

The poll results caused ESPN contributor Will Cain to wonder on Tuesday whether ESPN’s journalists are living in a “media bubble” that leaves them out of touch with public opinion.

How do they measure these ratings?

I thought that official 'ratings' of people watching shows were done by a statistical formula based on contacts with the selected people. I didn't think networks could actually tell who is watching what, when.

Or are "they" just pulling numbers out of their asses to show what they want to show?

Chris Kyle's wife had an excellent response.

http://ijr.com/the-declaration...l-every-player-read/

Wife of 'American Sniper' Chris Kyle Just Issued Major Challenge to NFL — Every Player Should Read This

BY JASON HOWERTON

Taya Kyle, the widow of legendary Navy SEAL sniper Chris Kyle, issued a bold challenge to the NFL via Facebook on Tuesday in response to the national anthem protests sweeping the league.

Like many other NFL fans, she is tired of seeing the sport focus on “division and anger” instead of the message of unity that it once represented. She is now calling on the NFL to make a real difference in America and urging its players to “get off your knees” to get it done.

We are presenting Kyle's entire letter to the NFL without commentary. We recommend reading every word:

Dear NFL,

You were doing your part to bring people together and heal the world. That's really how healing works. We heal by loving each other and leading by example; showing people what is possible when we love each other just as we are and not only recognize our differences but celebrate them and look at how we can use them together to make us jointly better than our separate parts. You were doing your part celebrating each other based on skills, talent and a joint vision without regard to color and religion.

You were doing your part and we were doing ours. We showed up cheering and groaning together to [sic] as one. We talked in the concession lines and commiserated and celebrated our team together. Did it ever occur to you that you and we were already a mix of backgrounds, races and religions? We were already living the dream you want, right in front of you.

Your desire to focus on division and anger has shattered what many people loved most about the sport. Football was really a metaphor for our ideal world –different backgrounds, talents, and histories actually made us one big team with one big goal - to do well, to win, TOGETHER.

You are asking us to abandon what we loved about togetherness and make choices of division. Will we stand with you? Will we stand with our flag? What does it mean? What does it mean if we buy a ticket or NFL gear? What does it mean if we don't? It is the polar opposite of the easy togetherness we once loved in football.

It was simple – we loved you and you loved us – with all of our races, religions and different backgrounds. Simplicity in a crazy world was pretty awesome.

You dear NFL, have taken that. You have lost me here.

If you ever want to get off your knees and get to work on building bridges, let me know. I have found screaming about the problems in service marriages or even standing in silence in front of them, hasn't healed even one of them. On the other hand, funding the Chris Kyle Frog Foundation, building a team and rolling up my sleeves to get in the trenches during my “off time” -volunteering there outside of my paying jobs - has proven to make real change.

You have a lot of strong guys, I am sure in the off season a lot of them could build some pretty big bridges if they care enough to do the hard work. That would involve getting off their knees and getting to work though. I can do it while I raise two kids as their only parent and work through the greatest pain of my life, let's see if they can do it for the issues they say they care so much about.

Go Longhorns and Sic 'Em …

Sincerely,

Taya

Chris Kyle and his friend, Chad Littlefield, were fatally shot and killed in 2013. Taya Kyle now raises their two children as a single parent.

To say she understands the incredible sacrifice America's service members make when they put on the uniform would be an understatement.

My daughter can deflate your daughter's soccer ball.

Burgess Owens is a great guy. Years ago, he and I were fellow teachers in the Primary (Sunday school for children) at Church. He was humble, kind, and unassuming. Were it not for the Superbowl ring he wore, I would have had no idea he played football.

He's done a lot to help players with their retirements. Anyone who says anything bad about him has no idea what they are talking about.

Sure it is, except it's not. Neither the NRA nor any other gun rights organization supports improper use of firearms. And I betcha if any firearms league had competitors start dissing the flag, those competitors would be gone or that league wouldn't be long for this world.

The NFL, OTOH, not only has done nothing to discourage disrespect for the flag, and, by extension, everything for which it stands, but even quashes attempts to honour those who paid the highest price upholding our country's values: NFL denies Cowboys' request to wear decal honoring fallen Dallas officers

This. Lack of response from the League and Ownership is the issue - not the moronic behavior of the ignorant players.

John McCain: never fails to disappoint:

when asked by TMZ Sports about the Dallas Cowboys kneeling before the national anthem to protest President Donald Trump’s comments objecting to NFL players kneeling for the national anthem,

McCain said “That’s their right to do what they want as citizens."

BTW, he also says he "hates" the Cowboys.

Well, he is right, I suppose, but no law or constitution spares one from the possibly unpleasant reaction of your fellow citizens to your peaceably assembly, or petition for the redress of grievances.

Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

When you had the votes, we did things your way. Now, we have the votes and you will be doing things our way. This lesson in political reality from Lyndon B. Johnson

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." - Justice Janice Rogers Brown

Exactly. This has never been a 1st Amendment issue. Of course they have the right to protest. But we also have the right to tell them to fuck off and change the channel.

There is no constitutional requirement to honor the flag or the national anthem (that I know of). McCain's comment was in the vein of it was okay to disrespect the flag and anthem.

Diff topic:
Here is one example where a boycott is felt:

https://pjmedia.com/video/pitt...g-boycott-fan-anger/

This owner of a Pittsburgh sports store says the problems started Monday morning, after the Steelers embarrassed themselves both on and off the field. Fan anger may not last forever, but it is very real at the moment and the league is ignoring it.

video at link

listen to the store owner complain about Villanueva because he wanted "to see the flag".

Her business has dropped dramatically for Steeler "stuff" and people are giving them a verbal hard time. Good.
