I think you have touched on an important point, that I have not heard anyone express. This makes these big, overgrown children, who know that they lead superficial lives playing a game with a ball-- taking a knee makes them feel important. Basking in media adulation, they feel like they are doing something morally superior and important.

I saw that the game the San Diego Smell A Chargers played to a sparsely filled stadium. And the stadium they're playing in now only seats about 27k. If the players start seeing a lot of empty seats, perhaps one of these MENSA candidates might find a clue. (okay, just kidding with that last bit).

But I do wonder where the NFL is going with this. A business doesn't survive long by calling its paying customers a bunch of a-holes. Only thing I can POSSIBLY think of is that the NFL for years have been looking at demographics and noticed their audience are older and whiter than the general population. So perhaps they're trying to connect with the younger SJW group. But I SERIOUSLY doubt that Pajama Boy can spring for a set of season tickets in addition to the $10 brews and $15 hot dogs. Only way they'll get tickets is if they whine loudly enough to get the local gub-mints to subsidize their tickets. I mean, taxpayers already subsidize the playgrounds for these spoiled millionaires and billionaires.

Ben Roethlisberger Regrets Steelers Boycotting Anthem

Ben Roethlisberger on Monday afternoon released a statement saying he regretted his Pittsburgh Steelers boycotting the national anthem on Sunday.

So Ben wants to trade in his Participation Trophy for Respect?

Sorry son, it doesn't work that way.
You choose sides on Sunday and participated.

I say that's bullshit. Race has nothing to do with it. Far too many black and white people believe they can point a gun or a knife at a Policeman and not have to obey a command to drop the weapon.

Most of the advertisers have been there for a long time-- some, like Ford and Chevy, virtually from the beginning. They are now going to have to re-assess their support, as always happens when some athlete who represents a company is involved in a scandal. Who will come forward and aggressively support those players who disrespect our country? You know some will do so.

And they are the ones we should focus on in the boycott.

WE GOT ONE!!! Smile

Per Denver ABC:

Large auto dealership says Von Miller's anthem protest misrepresents interests, pulls advertisements

DENVER — Just a day after only 19 Broncos players stood for the national anthem to protest controversial messages by President Donald Trump, some of the team's leaders are already seeing consequences.

Star outside linebacker Von Miller was one of the Broncos who took a knee, and Phil Long Ford dealership took issue with that. They said they dropped their one-time spokesperson on Monday morning, although in a late-day statement, the group said they feel Miller is a "good person."

Miller had appeared in several advertisements on television endorsing the dealership, however the the large auto dealer requested their ads be pulled on Monday. According to Denver7 Broncos insider Troy Renck, the last commercial deal struck between the two groups was in March, but the move on Monday severed all ties.

Some of the advertisements which had previously been posted to YouTube had already been removed from the dealership's page.

Although the dealership confirmed the move, the company's spokespeople released a statement later in the day saying the following:

quote:

"We are evaluating the events of the weekend. It is important to state that we haven't fired Von. We are in the middle of contract renewal and this weekend's events remind us that sometimes we feel that we best represent ourselves. We support Von and his first amendment rights, we know Von and he's a good person. He donated a police car to his hometown police dept. All that notwithstanding when we bring in celebrities to represent us we run the risk of being misrepresented."

We, like millions of Americans are concerned and will respond consistently with our values as a proud American company founded by a war hero (Phil Long). While we can't control the actions of others we can be responsible for how we support our nation and community. That is why, years ago, our principal owner, Jay Cimino, founded the Mount Carmel Veteran's Service center, and is supported by all Phil Long Dealerships. We support this cause not just with our words, but financially as well, and it is serving hundreds of veterans in need right here in Colorado. This would be a great time for our community to show support for our military community by supporting this cause or others that continue to serve them after they serve us."

I agree with your assessment.
The advertisers did nothing wrong on Sunday.
Now they need to decide if they will continue supporting the NFL with advertising dollars.

Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

When you had the votes, we did things your way. Now, we have the votes and you will be doing things our way. This lesson in political reality from Lyndon B. Johnson

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." - Justice Janice Rogers Brown

http://www.post-gazette.com/sp...stories/201709250175

Alejandro Villanueva said he never intended to stand alone during the national anthem on Sunday and apologized to his teammates and coach Mike Tomlin for what he called “a very embarrassing” botching of the team’s pregame plan.

“Every single time I see that picture of me standing by myself, I feel embarrassed,” Villanueva said.

“We butchered our plan.”

Villanueva, an Army Ranger who was deployed in Afghanistan, said he asked quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and the rest of the team’s leaders to amend their original idea, agreed upon after a Saturday night team meeting, which was to stand in the locker room during the anthem in an attempted show of unity. Part of the reason Villanueva pushed for change: he’d received texts from wounded veterans asking him to stand for the anthem.

Villanueva’s suggestion, he said, was to stand with Roethlisberger and the team’s other captains at the front of the tunnel. That didn’t work out due to, as Roethlisberger said, pregame “chaos” in a small area, and Villanueva was left to stand alone with his teammates about 20 feet behind him.

“The crazy thing about that is, when we came out of the tunnel, we told Al to come stand up front with the captains. Cam, myself and [Tyler Matakevich],” Roethlisberger said.

“When we came out of the locker room into that tunnel, it was a very small area. There was a flag or something coming off the field so there were a bunch of Bears fans, coming off the field holding that [and] going in front of us, so it kind of held us up.”

The end result was Villanueva, hand on his heart and mouthing the words to the song, standing apart from his teammates. It was widely perceived, with sound enough logic, that he’d gone rogue.

Villanueva took sole responsibility for the mix-up and said that “very few players” knew that he’d planned to head to the tunnel because he went directly to the captains with his idea.

“They’re getting negative feedback because they didn’t stand up for the national anthem when in reality, they would’ve done it. They were fighting to stand up for the national anthem.”

He also made a point to say that he did not take offense to players who have chosen to take a knee during the anthem in protest of “injustices and racial divide,” including former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who knelt for the anthem in protest of police brutality and racial injustice last season.

“I take no offense,” Villanueva said. “I don’t think veterans at the end of the day take any offense. They actually signed up and fought so that somebody could take a knee and protest peacefully whatever it is that their hearts desire.”

Continually, Villanueva apologized to the rest of the team.

“I made coach Tomlin look bad, and that is my fault and my fault only,” he said. “I made my teammates look bad, and that is my fault and my fault only.

He picked the right side, instinctively.
And then, he folded to pressure. He's sorry for not being part of the team... even if the team was on the wrong side.

He had 4 aces in his hand and decided to fold.

I said this earlier, but Goodell is working on an extension. This whole thing is his fault for letting it get so out of hand and he needs to go. I think we need to take a page out of the liberal playbook and try to get him fired.

quote:

After a hotly political weekend in the National Football League, a few of the league’s corporate sponsors have started speaking out -- sort of.

Ford Motor Co., Armour Inc. and Anheuser-Busch InBev SA issued statements that affirmed NFL players’ rights to kneel during the pre-game national anthem, while also sounding patriotic notes and affirming their support of the flag.

Ford, for example, said the automaker would “respect individuals’ rights to express their views, even if they are not ones we share. That’s part of what makes America great.” In a tweet Sunday, Under Armour said it “stands for the flag and by our athletes for free speech, expression and a unified America.”

The anthem protests, which began with former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick last year, were originally meant to call attention to racial injustice and police brutality. Some people see them as anti-American displays, and over the weekend, President Donald Trump called for team owners to fire players who refused to stand up during the Star-Spangled Banner.

The tangled responses are the latest version of the challenges faced by corporations in a world in which the president makes public demands and denouncements of companies via Twitter. General Motors Co., Campbell Soup Co., ESPN parent Walt Disney Co. and Uber Technologies Inc. have all faced calls for boycotts related to their perceived support of -- or distance from -- the White House.

“Because it is a divisive issue, it’s not a surprise that companies are not willing to stake a very definite claim,’’ said Kabrina Krebel Chang, an associate professor at the Boston University Questrom School of Business who studies corporate involvement in social issues. “That could be a statement that is very middle-of-the-road but is also very consistent. They’re not going to please everyone.”

After Trump criticized players at NFL games who take a knee during the national anthem, players and coaches across the league Sunday joined the protests. Several NFL owners, many of whom were million-dollar donors to Trump’s campaign, joined in support for their players.

Two sponsors, starting with Nike, made more definitive statements. The world’s largest sportswear brand and maker of NFL uniforms said it “supports athletes and their right to freedom of expression on issues that are of great importance to our society.”

Hyundai Motor Co. also took a more direct stance: “We stand for and respect individuals’ freedoms to express their First Amendment rights in any peaceful manner in which they choose. We also stand for inclusion, freedom and all that represents those values.”

The vast majority of the NFL’s 37 sponsors have remained silent. The league earns $1.25 billion from its corporate partners, who are eager to be affiliated with the most popular sport in the U.S. and the national TV audience it attracts.

For Sunday’s broadcast, the ratings were mixed. Matchups on Fox and NBC drew fewer viewers than a year earlier, while CBS said the number of people tuning in rose. Viewership for the entire season has been down.

“Tremendous backlash against the NFL and its players for disrespect of our country,” Trump tweeted late Monday.

Meanwhile, fans in favor of and against the protests are calling for a total boycott. Hashtags #BoycottNFLSponsors and #PunchThemInTheWallet are circulating on both pro-Trump and pro-player social media. Some fans tweeted directly at the companies, saying they were no longer customers. The hashtag #standforouranthem, tweeted by Trump, was also trending Monday.

There is absolutely nothing 'we' can do about Goodell.

He works exclusively for the owners - he is doing exactly what they have told him to do. He does not work for the NFL, the fans, or the players. He works for the owners.
