For many years the orangish Cholula was my favorite hot sauce. It’s now called Cholula Original. But a year ago I found Cholula Green Pepper, and it’s stolen my heart. Lordy, I LOVE this stuff! Slightly zippier than the Original, but the most important difference is its delish flavor. Highly recommended! I think it would even be good on vanilla ice cream.

Cholula green is very tasty. Their chili lime is even better.

I'll have to look for it. I used Cholula hot sauce for years but now my favorite is Sweet Baby Rays hot sauce. I love the stuff. Cajun Sunshine is another I like and use a lot.

Sounds good. I'll have to look for it in the store. My current favorite is Frank's.

Cholula is one of my favorite Mexican-style hot sauces. I'll have to try their green.

Maybe the same heat level but much less vinegar.

Which is less vinegar? Frank's or Cholula?

I was looking for an alternative to Tabasco and couldn't decide on one. The one thing I want is less vinegar than Tabasco.

I want something for eggs, hash browns and such.

Both Frank's and Tabasco have more vinegar than Cholula. It's the one thing I like about Sweet Baby Rays and Cajun Sunshine. I dislike too much of it but it is why hot sauces do not need to be refrigerated.

I thought it was because bugs are pussies!

Cholula is pretty tasty as far as the milder sauces go, but it is no competition for La Yucateca (red or especially green) IMHO.

It does seem that the market is changing to favor less heat and less intensely-flavored sauces (or maybe I've burned out my taste buds). One flavor profile that seems harder to find than say 20 years ago is Mango+Habanero like Inner Beauty.

Jim

I go through a 5oz bottle of Cholula Green Pepper in less than a week, so no refrigeration needed. At least not in San Diego temperature.

Cholula would have less vinegar. Franks, Tobasco and a lot of the American formulations involving tobasco peppers tend to go really heavy on the vinegar. For your purposes, you might look into a sriracha ketchup, it’s excellent for breaksfast foods.

The original Cholula has a good flavor but I like a little more heat. I'll have to try the green one.

Currently I'm hooked on Trappy's Mexi-Pep...mmmmm....

Frank's is my go-to for chicken and pizza. But when it comes to an everyday hot sauce for Mexican food, Cholula and Tapatillo are decent, but I'm more of a Valentina fan myself.

Valentina is good, too.

What do people like for Louisiana style sauces?

I do like Louisiana brand. Crystal is good.

If you haven’t tried it yet, you might also really like Guacamaya. Comes in several varieties, including lime, which is excellent.

As I mentioned earlier, Cajun Sunshine is my go to Louisiana style hot sauce. It's made by Reily Foods in NOLA. Really good stuff and great on pizza and eggs.

Frank's is actually cayenne based.

There's a sauce I really like that is kind of like Frank's in that it is a vinegary hot sauce with a bright, clean pepper flavor, but it's a little hotter than Frank's and has a deeper flavor. It uses jalapenos and arbols.

If I could only have one hot sauce, right now I'd choose Marie Sharp's Hot. It is a moderately hot (for a habanero-based sauce) habanero-based sauce from Belize that just has the most amazing pepper flavor.

Melinda's is similar and more generally available - Melinda's is based on Marie Sharp's, there was some messy falling out years ago and they went their separate ways. I like Melinda's a lot, but I think Marie Sharp's (the original) is noticeably better. I think Marie Sharp got Wal-Mart to stock it, you can also get it on Amazon.
