Some people have short memories. Trump has been spot on for most of the last 3.5 years, and the Democrats haven't. He plays chess and the commies play checkers, poorly. He is always several moves ahead. It would not surprise me in the least that Trump and McConnell not only have been planning on the choice for the Ginsburg SCOTUS seat, but also on the exact votes they will get in the Senate with this choice. They likely knew more of Ginsburg's health status than the public and planned accordingly.

They have learned a lot from the Kavanaugh hearings. These guys are not going into this situation blindly, you can bet your bottom dollar they are prepared.

Do you think President Trump releasing an amended SCOTUS list last week was just by chance?

Trump is a machine and does not do anything by "chance".

Trump released a revised list to try and force Biden to release his. Biden still hasn't released a list, and he won't because it will be chock full of rabid leftists and the dems don't want to alienate any moderate independents.

If Biden mentions "release your tax records", (should there be any live debates) POTUS should retort with "release your SCOTUS list". Even before Biden finishes the sentence.

Could you imagine one gem in there who's more conservative than the rest and, of whom Trump says, "great option, I'm going with nominee"?

So everyone is twisting around the math and what rino’s might go the other way, relying on Pence to break a tie.

Couldn’t 3 or even 4 simply vote “present” and still have enough votes with say 47-49 to confirm? Is it a simple majority of votes cast or does it actually require 51 votes?

Genius Trump Nominates Joe Biden To Supreme Court Forcing Dems To Accuse Him Of Sexual Assault

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Trump has announced his pick for Supreme Court justice: Joe Biden. By nominating Biden, Trump has forced the Dems' hands, making them believe the sexual assault claims and allegations of inappropriate, creepy behavior against the former vice president.

The "4D chess" move forced Dems to immediately accuse Joe Biden of sexual assault and reverse their position on the current claims against him.

"We now believe Tara Reade," said a somber Kamala Harris, "and we will do everything in our power to destroy this man's life."

In addition to believing current claims against Joe Biden, Democrats also immediately dug up 417 new accusers against Joe Biden. He has been accused of participating in wild frat parties, drunken keggers, and something called the "Devil's Triangle," which Dems say is either a Satanic ritual or code for a sexual practice or "maybe both."

"It's clear this man is dangerous and cannot be trusted," said Nancy Pelosi. "We call on the Senate to turn down his nomination and run him out of public life."

Biden released a statement, saying, "I just want to go home and see my grandkids again." His mic was cut off and he was pulled off the stage with a shepherd's crook.

Biden just had an event.
No questions were taken, but he did clearly indicate that he would not be releasing his list of Supreme Court contenders, as it could influence their court rulings.

Figured his handlers could have come up with a better explanation, but that’s what he went with.

I have not seen any commentary about WHY the timing of replacing RBG has become an issue. I, perhaps we by the existence of this thread, find it just as wrong that she refused to step down purely for the political purpose of denying Trump the chance to put a nominee forward.

Said another way ... it would be just as accurate to say RBG unnecessarily delayed the nomination process, instead of Trump is rushing it.

Sorry if this has been addressed and I missed it but assuming someone votes absentee and they die before election day does their vote count?
Apparently it depends on what state your are in but we can be fairly confident that Joe got a vote from at least one dead person.

Ahh, the wonders of the internet...

And a nice editorial from the NYT back in 2016 on how the court needs nine justices, not eight...

The Crippled Supreme Court

Every day that passes without a ninth justice undermines the Supreme Court’s ability to function, and leaves millions of Americans waiting for justice or clarity as major legal questions are unresolved.

Well and no appointment was guaranteed to get confirmed once the Senate flipped during Zippy’s 2nd term. She had to hold on as long as possible.

I hope all the Republican Senators sit down and watch “The Untouchables” this weekend to prepare for how vicious this is gonna get. The lovely Sean Connery said it best, “You wanna get Capone? Here's how you get him. He pulls a knife, you pull a gun. He sends one of yours to the hospital, you send one of his to the morgue! That's the Chicago way.”

But if not, I’ll settle for Steve Stifler (American Pie) and his quote of “How about you guys find your balls and use them.”

This is going to be fantastic. Looks like our October Surprise just happened to arrive a few days early.
