At one time you could count on the Senate to be the voice of reason and calm, the upper chamber was designed to represent the interests of the states and country, once the 17th was ratified it became just an extension of the house.

Prior to its passage, Senators were chosen by state legislatures. 1913 was a very bad year for this country. The Prog/Dem/Socialist/Commies have been making inroads ever since.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."
-- Justice Janice Rogers Brown

Once the 17th Amendment took the States out of having a true voice in the US Congress, all that remains of the last vestiges of the original Republic created by the Founders is the Electoral College. And that is why the Dems want to do away with it. Everything by popular vote, aka “mob rule”.

Someone suggested a while back we should leave this thread and start a new one for Judge Barrett's nomination hearing. And, now that it's started, why not do so? RBG is dead and gone. Barrett deserves her own thread.

This must be playing in the heads of all the leftists.

She's gone, she's gone
Oh I, oh I
I better learn how to face it
She's gone, she's gone
Oh I, oh I
I'd pay the devil to replace her
She's gone, and she's gone
Oh why, what went wrong?

With apologies to Hall & Oates.

I love how they talk about "her" seat, as if there was an obligation to replace her with someone similar. That is, of course, utterly ridiculous. Just by way of illustration, she was preceded by Byron White, Charles Whittaker, Stanley Reed, George Sutherland, John Clarke, Charles Hughes, all the way back to John Jay. It is as much their seat as it is hers.

Political theater. Pure theater.

From the beginning, I have avoided any of this "her seat" tripe. It was NEVER 'her' seat - it was the seat she occupied.

Of course, leftists live and die by their precious little feelings, so that is why they are doing all this "respect rbg's legacy" crap.

These leftists are about to get several important lessons as to why their feelings really don't drive the world. The first will be when ACB gets appointed to SCOTUS, and then the next big one will be when President Trump gets re-elected. They will lose their freaking minds, and it will be awesome to watch.

It is interesting how much the Democrats project: "If the the court has a conservative majority they will vote for the Republican agenda to repeal R v. W and Obamacare!

Well no, they will decide cases according to law. It is the liberal justices that will always vote for ideology instead of the law. That they assume everyone else does the same shows their intent.

Booker's questions at the end were idiotic - talking about all the wonderful gay people that will suffer if the decision that allowed them to marry is overturned. I would have like ACB to say simply:

"I think you would be happier if you simply passed legislation legalizing gay marriage and providing whatever level of legal protection and benefits you see appropriate. Depending on the court to make the decisions you want and worry if they might make a decision you don't like clearly has you under a lot of stress. Please make it simple for us and don't ask us to do your job for you, ok?"

Same with Obamacare. Don't pass laws that are unconstitutional and SCOTUS will not have to hear the case and decide if all or part of the law needs to be set aside.
