Glad you are okay. The only dog that ever attacked my Canaan Dog Zhora was the same pitbull named Leyla at a local dog park. Busy day, dozens of dog. First time she just wanted to play (aggressively) with my dog, who is aloof but non-confrontational with most dogs. Leyla was under a year old I was told and would not take no for an answer. Leyla picked out my dog to exclusion of all others. Zhora did all the normal avaoidance issues, walked awy repeateldy, and finally sat. Still no bueno. Leyla would not stop. She finally showed her teeth and Leyla attacked. But she was only 40 lbs or so, I was watching, and pulled her away Zhora. Her idiot owners were off smoking or chit chatting and had no idea their angel was enroute to becoming a menace. 6 months later. Same park, same Leyla. Lots of pople and lots of dogs. She went RIGHT at Zhora. I remembered. I drove my knee HARD into her chest (she's now like 60+ lbs) and grabbed her collar HARD. As did an armed former cop and dog lover who told me after that he was 50/50 he'd have to shoot that dog. The owners were getting mouthy but plenty others (some helped restrain Leyla) said their dog was agressive and they should LEAVE. Bad experience, but could have been worse. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Batty67,

Batty -- can you post (or email to me) a photo of Zhora? And tell us a little about her? I had never heard of this breed prior to your post; I googled, and I'd like to hear some personal thoughts about the dogs. הרחפת שלי מלאה בצלופחים

Sure. Canaan Dogs are a pariah dog breed from Israel (Canaan), also called Israel Canaan Dogs. Still used by Bedouins as guard dogs. Usually black and white (all variations) but a major class of them, like Zhora, are cream/tan/white. Probably only a few hundred in the U.S. we have a local breeder like 30 miles away. As a breed they are very intelligent, somewhat aloof to strangers and other dogs, and SHED a lot of hair. Since they have an outer coat and under coat. Zhora is very big for a female at 50-55 lbs. Even for a male that would be kind of big. They are well-built, agile, strong, and have charactersitic pricked up ears and the curved tail. Zhora's parents and all siblings are AKC champions (we never went that route). Zhora is 12.5 YO so she's definitely slowing down and getting athritis. ![]() ![]() ![]()

The problem with Pitbulls, and a couple of other breeds, is the combination of temperament AND physical traits or ability to do damage. Three breeds cause 80% of the deaths. Pitbulls are at the top with around 65%. Dachshunds are actually the most bite prone breed. This article below has some interesting info about relative risks from a variety of things. Interesting to see why certain breeds are higher risk. Worldwide, mosquitoes cause the most deaths of any living creature. It's almost like people breed specific traits into dogs... I had a 90lb pit rip the left side of my face off in 2015, came within an inch of killing me and/or blinding me. He lunged and bit into my right rib and pulled me out and into the street. I'm permanently disfigured, and still have the vampire bites on my rib, along with a cranial bruise over my left eye and temple that will never heal. The dog didn't bark or anything, he saw me and attacked without warning. "Ninja kick the damn rabbit"

(running) Chainsaws and butter knives. You can juggle both, and have a mishap with either. But you drop a butter knife on your foot, you might get a bruise. You drop a running chainsaw on your foot, you get 50% off at Payless Shoes. Yes, pits have the potential to inflict great damage, and for that reason, greater responsibility in owning, training and controlling the dog, and interaction is required. No dog, even the smallest ankle snapper, should not be left to nibble ankles. Sort of like caliber arguments. A .22 handgun vs a 12 gauge with buckshot. Is it OK with folks if they get shot by a .22, because compared to the 12 gauge, it can do less damage? Or rather not be shot at all? Then there are big trucks, swimming pools, stairs, alcohol and the list of never ending things we can eliminate to be safer. Enough, life's tough, get a helmet. I have no time or energy to live in fear of what might happen if I get out of bed, so I get up, and make my bed. And, yes. I like pitbulls, but I will always keep a close watch over them, because they have greater potential, and I'll cap Toto in a Dodge City minute. Conceded. But neither are Doberman Pinschers, Rottweilers, or German Shepherds, to name a few well-known breeds, as well as a variety of others. Mind you: I have no skin in this game. I'm not even particularly fond of Pit Bulls. But they get unfair treatment, IMO. Kind of like gun owners, really ![]() "America is at that awkward stage. True and those particular dogs account for almost all of the dog bite deaths due to the combination of physical characteristics and the owners that seem to be attracted to them. The Pits happen to be by far the largest percentage, even on that short list. The lethal combination in any of those breeds is the combination of absent or irresponsible (and often criminal) owner and the physical traits of the dog. In fact, looking back through this thread and reading the attack stories, the common link seems to be the owners as much as the breed. ___________________________ Avoid buying ChiCom/CCP products whenever possible.

I have a neighbor with two pit bulls. One is generally relaxed and friendly, the other runs purely on emotion. It does not think, just reacts with excitement and aggression increasing every moment. The fences keep it in, fortunately. Same owners, two totally different dispositions. One is an incident waiting to happen. -c1steve

Now they are talking about getting an OP against me so I lose my guns, and suing the deputy who came out yesterday. I guess this is because I wasn't immediately thrown under the jail?

I believe you have more standing for obtaining an order than they do. My recommendation is you contact the correct attorney now, and start covering your rear. From what you have posted, these neighbors and their associates are the real threat, the dog was simply a wake up call. And be mindful of anything you say or post online. In progress, sir. They have been shitposting so much on Facebook about this, and someone goaded them into admitting a bunch of wrongdoings. Including not ever containing their dog. I've acquired screenshots so they can't delete anything. I will be at the courthouse tomorrow. God must have loved idiots, he made so very many.

As I have posted before Dad was a vet. I was for many years his kennel boy, asst surgeon, and xray tech. In all those years the only two serious bites I had were from a cocker spaniel and a smokey grey cat. SIGnature NRA Benefactor CMP Pistol Distinguished
