The crackhead neighbors' dog, be specific. Third time it's attacked me, and I had to shoot. It entered the open mouth, and exited the cheek, leaving a 9mm hole.

Attack was broken off at the first shot. Neighbors showed up immediately, and caused a disturbance until cops showed up. As I live in the county I retired from, highway patrol took my statement.

I'm not hurt, the pit bull will recover, and the ammo was cheaper than medical bills. I hope the dog stays away now. I hate to kill one, I love dogs, but if it will attack someone my size, what will it do to children?

As soon as they left, the neighbors parked in the access road, and took pictures of my mother's car. Not sure why.

If I die in a house fire tonight, you know who is responsible.

You did what you had to do. The rogue neighbors probably know you will do what you have to do.

Hope they leave you alone. Document and video all you can.

I almost had to shoot a dog once, also a pitbull. I had a makarov in my right hand, out and ready. In my left (weak)hand a long stick. After a couple of waves of the stick it retreated. I had petted this same dog the day before when my neighbors were there with it.

This dog had major issues. It would chase you in your car biting at the tire, Another neighbor had it bite their plastic bumper.

The dog and neighbor owners are long gone. I'm thankful I didn't have to pull the trigger.

I was involved in three shootings of dogs while I was a cop. Once on a search warrant when the owner sicced his pit on me. Bad situation all around. I know how fast it can happen.
Glad you are ok.

Trashy neighbors never seem to fail to entertain. Glad you weren't hurt.

Wow, through the open mouth and out the cheek. Doubtless the dog has no idea what was avoided so I seriously doubt he's learned much if anything at all. And now, it's possible he is at the early stages of gunfire desensitization.

I would just wear a pistol all the time till that little bitch (and his dog) are gone. I'm so sorry that it seems you are not going to be allowed to be at ease when outside your home. Hopefully it's only for a short time.

Was the dog running loose? No tether or chain?

The neighbors claimed that it's a service dog, and it was wearing an orange collar, (it wasn't) and that I violated federal law by shooting it. I'm not sure what service this dog performs, if he can leave it at his mother's house for weeks at a time. I love dogs, but I sure could do without some dog owners. Just waiting to see what kind of retaliation they do. Apparently, my sister hangs out with them a lot, and is telling them all sorts of lies. But meth addicts tend to make up their own reality.

And since someone will likely ask, it was an FNS-9 compact, with gold dots.

As much as I revere and care about dogs, I realize not all dogs are civil.

You did what you thought was necessary, people like the people you described should not have any kind of animal.

To me the fear of getting mauled is great, but the fear of getting bitten by a rabid dog is greater.

Years ago a Soldier of mine shot a pit in Orlando. He's a runner and was out running, he'd been attacked by loose dogs before and this one was stalking him. He and the owner of the dog had some words the week prior so my Soldier started carrying his Glock 27 during his runs. Dog approached him and started advancing on him. He shoots the dog and hits it in the neck, dog runs off and dies. Owner calls the cops and they come out to take a report. Owner ended up confronting my Soldier, both had pistols on each other.

This was off 408 and John Young in Orlando. If you know the area, you'd understand.

Dog was loose, and about 50 yards onto my property. To shoot an animal belonging to another in this state, you need to meet two requirements.

1) Animal on your property
2) Causing trouble

The above excepts attacks elsewhere, which can fall under castle doctrine.

And what's the deal with adrenaline? I never get the shakes until after the event is over.

Glad you’re ok and were armed. Unarmed would have likely had a different outcome. Stuff like this is why I always carry, everywhere. Problems tend to find people.

Need to put security cameras up outside if not already. I hate trashy morons next door.

Just keep doing what you are doing.

I'd call animal control and file a complaint that the dog wasn't impounded and destroyed.

If it comes back on your property, game over.

They will never wise up. A few of their number were tied up in a home invasion, and one murdered, a few years ago. Robbers were looking for drugs and money. Dead guy removed everything but himself.

We had game cams, but the neighbors stole the SD cards from them. There is no animal control in the county.

Wink

Given the picture painted of the dog owner, I wonder if he even got the dog any medical attention. My bet, probably not.

My dog and I were attacked by a pit bull while out walking. I had my dog in my arms, pitbull dragged me to the ground when he attacked. There were several neighbors out watching, not a damn one helped. To many people to take a chance discharging my pistol, I ended up eviscerating it in the middle of the street with my backup knife. Police showed up, my dog went to the vet and I ended up at urgent care. They were ticketed for letting a vicous dog run loose. The police were cool about, neighbors not so much. Everyone avoids me now, which is fine.
