Burden of proof is on the state. Of course the cost of forcing the state to meet that burden falls on the accused. There have long been rumors of CA agents noting license plates at NV gun shows and calling in certain plates to be pulled over as they re-enter CA. The end goal is a ban on guns and ammo but they'll settle for making it such a hassle that people move or quit shooting for now.

Seems to me that with the "election" in AL, that it will very tough for Trump to get any reasonably conservative judges appointed. Let alone one to the SCOTUS. 51-49 senate count, and add all the swamp creatures like McLame and his consorts and nothing even resembling a constitutional scholar will get to the SCOTUS, or any of the lower court judgeships, either. I well remember crossing the borders into Kalifornistan more than 25 years ago. We were stopped at the border and the car searched for "illegal" stuff. Like fruit. Why would they not do the same for that really dangerous like ammo? And, as others have already said, how the hell would they know where the ammo was bought? Oh! Oh! I know, they will require any/all ammo bought in, or imported in to kalifornistan to have place of origin on the boxes, if not serial numbers on the rounds! I'll be in UT at the first of the year. I'm tempted to buy in bulk and take my chances in Truckee. They've always asked about fruit, but not ammo. This is a silly, feel good, do nothing law. I still have to get my head wrapped around what changes I need to make to my Sig516 in order to look different, but operate the same. ![]() P229

What about gifts? Let's say I want to give my dear old friend C1STEVE a birthday (or Christmas, or Hanukkah, or Kwanzaa) present and I bring him a case of ammo, nicely wrapped with a big pretty bow on top. Is that legal?

The tree of liberty can only be refreshed by blood. To paraphrase President Jefferson, sort of. -.-. --.- -.-. --.- -.-. --.- -.-. --.- It only stands to reason that where there's sacrifice, there's someone collecting the sacrificial offerings. Where there's service, there is someone being served. The man who speaks to you of sacrifice is speaking of slaves and masters, and intends to be the master. I'm in Virginia and bought two boxes of shotgun shells today at a Walmart. The checkout girl asked for my birthdate. Well, I've gotten used to this buying cigars at various places. I usually give them a date just old enough to buy cigars but somewhat short of my 70 plus years, just to see if they're paying attention. So I said something about how ammo was now being treated like alcohol and tobacco. She said, no, they didn't ask on alcohol or tobacco, just ammo. She went on to say, that they only ask on on alcohol and tobacco, if the customer looks younger than 40 but they have to ask everyone on ammo. Interestingly, the day before, I had bought ammo at a different Walmart and paid at the sporting goods counter. No one asked me anything.

IIRC, July 1, 2018 we will need a background check - just like a firearm - to purchase ammo. Can't infringe on gun rights? Easy answer - take the ammo. Shall not be infringed! Ammo is part of a firearm, so I'm waiting for some attorneys to point this salient fact out to the tyrants in charge of this State. I just used up a significant portion of my retirement funds on 22LR and 9mm, both of which I do not reload for. Got a shitload of lead for the casting and much powder & primers, so good to go there.

So, who will win the turf war between the mob and the cartels once they start the war to determine who gets to smuggle ammo in? How many law enforcement officers will resign? They after all are the tool used to create the threat of violence for non-compliance. Hard to imagine the west used to represent independence...

Where would you be driving to - Hawaii? or from Yuma to Salem OR? As I am in San Diego, I fully intend to do trips to Yuma for pre-loaded ammo. And with regards to reloading, do not be surprised when you see primers become classified as military grade explosives in CA. Also, IF there are no court ordered cancellations of said law, expect NY, NJ, and just about every other democratic controlled state to begin passing similar laws. Life moves pretty fast. Unfortunately that doesn't always work out well. I have a friend who's looking at 10-15 years in prison for doing that. Nope, not legal. Also as mentioned in another post, MA, NY and NJ may follow. -c1steve

They will only know if you get caught bringing it in. Once inside the borders it would be most hard to prove. I am sure the CA lawmakers are planning on outlawing purchase of reloading components, but they can only steal so much of our freedom at a time. -c1steve

Every summer I drive to Carson City from Portland. Easiest route is via California. It's WAY out of the way to cross over the OR-NV border and go from there. There are a couple of AWESOME ranges in the Carson City area, so I always bring my revolver and ammo. I guess I have to re-plan. .

I think it depends on how much of a newbie the cashier/counter person is. I've had it go both ways at Walmart as well. Also I've had it go both ways with alcohol at the nearby Costco, and there's absolutely zero chance that I look like I'm under 21.
