I really wanted to love the 229, I bought three. .40 and .357 Sig. I couldn't shoot them well, at all. Might have to try a 9mm one of these days

I once owned a Kart long slide .22 unit mated with an Essex receiver, it had a Weaver 4X scope mounted on it. The receiver was stainless steel, the Kart unit may have been so, as well, the scope was finished in a satin silver finish. Really, really neat looking, the best it ever did was three rounds without stopping, most of the time it was one or two shots.

High Standard derringer. For some strange reason I always wanted one. Maybe back in the day they served a purpose as a last ditch backup gun, but I sure as hell had no use for it. Even when I was trading away a nice gun to get it, I was thinking "What the hell am I going to do with this thing?" I shot it one time and knew the answer... 'nothing". Cockeyed barrels pointing in two directions. I could barely keep both shots on a man sized target at 7 yards.
The only upside of that was I found someone who collected them and was able to off load it.

#3. A CZ-83. Beautiful gun but 380 sucks: blowback makes it kick like a 9, ammo costs more than 9mm, heavier than a Glock 26. Did I mention it's beautiful?
#2. FN-P9. Looked interesting. In reality, it had a plastic feel that made it as much fun to shoot as a staple gun. I replaced it with a Sig 226.
#1. SW Shield 9mm. Grip was so small I couldn't avoid too much trigger finger, leading to pulling shots.

Honorable mention (because I don't own one but I've shot several) PPK and PPK/S. If it wasn't for James Bond movies it would have died off years ago. Lousy ergos, square corners on the grip beat the crap out of your hand and I've seen more than one person cut tracks in their hand from slide bite.

My buddy was going to buy a COP .357 four-barreled Derringer from his friend as his first handgun. I don't know if that "looks cool" or not. I advised against it.

We took it out to the range for a test. Big, chunky, heavy, inaccurate, and one barrel was completely unreliable in touching off its round. Luckily, he passed on it.

Stoeger M3000 in camo

Circa ~2009 $450

My plan was to use it as a duck gun.

Range test day 1: It would often shot two rounds in full auto fashion.

- $25 to send it back for repairs

Range test thereafter: After shooting 1 or 2 rounds the shell carrier would lock in place. Thus preventing loading addition rounds into the tubular magazine.

Sold it for ~$400. Would love to have had it as an inexpensive duck guy, especially hunting in ocean bays. Still sad today.

Ruger P85. I looked forward to its release, and knew Ruger was developing it with the hopes of earning a military contract. Once I was able to locate one in a LGS, I quickly knew I would pass. Chunky, blocky, bad ergos for me. It also had a slide mounted safety, which I despise. Full size Ruger centerfire pistols continue to underwhelm me. I am a fan of their double action revolvers though.

My P90DC can hit quarter size target at 10 yards all day long. She may not be considered the prettiest gal in the stable but she is the best where it counts. Wink

To add to the thread; my biggest disappointment was a S&W 22-A1 with target grips. It was a jam-o-matic (once per mag - at least - regardless of the ammo used) and a royal pain to clean with that cheap ass plastic part.

When I decided to sell, a buddy at work wanted it - even with my full disclosure about the issues.

Too this day he says he wished he had listened to me and heeded my words.

Probably half the shit I own Big Grin

To be fair to the SPAS, there's a fella reproducing most of the breakable parts at reasonable cost now. Easy to get one back up and running.

Another vote against PPK/S 1970's.

and COP -- miserable trigger, heavy and so inaccurate that the safest place to stand when some one was shooting it was, at 7 paces, holding the target.

Colt Pony Light -- I lived 5 miles from the Colt plant and took it to them 3 times, than they gave me a chit to take to the store I bought it from for whatever I wanted.

Hi-Power -- beautiful finish, good trigger, it more so groped than grouped.

Walter PPKS, the blowback was horrid on my hands, and it kept breaking the extractor. I have pretty small hands, so the web of my hand took a beating, hurt like the dickens. Next up is a Mac 11, that thing jammed all the time, occasionally the bullets would literally fall out from the mag, and the stock kept collapsing while shooting. Complete piece of junk in my opinion.

A Ruger Single Six. Being a fan of cowboy movies and tv shows, I had to have a six gun. Never got used to it. Glad I wasn't a cowboy in the Old West.

P229 does not belong in this thread. They are awesome pistols. Apparently it just didn’t fit your hand.
