"Unprecedented Fires" Scorch 3,000 Acres In Los Angeles Area, Forcing 49,000 To Evacuate

LA Fire Summary:

  • Fast-moving, wind-driven fires are sweeping through the Los Angeles area, forcing mandatory evacuations for over 49,000 residents. The fires remain 0% contained.

  • The Palisades Fire has burned nearly 3,000 acres, while the Eaton Fire has scorched 1,000 acres and the Hurst Fire has consumed 500 acres.

  • Gov. Gavin Newsom deployed 1,400 firefighters & declares state of emergency.

  • Nearly 300,000 residential and/or commercial customers are without power in the LA region.

  • NWS: Worst fire conditions (high winds) will peak Wednesday morning.

  • Malibu residents warned about potential evacuation.

The Palisades, Eaton, and Hurst wildfires raging in Southern California show no signs of abating.

The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

There was a video last night on X from a local person who had stayed behind and was trapped in a nearly full glass walled house with their dog. It is pretty crazy.

Link, but it's all over X and news

Horse shit. There are, and have been for uncounted centuries, fires in this region every year. It is the very nature of the vegetation and climate.

If you’re interested, Wyoming meteorologist, Don Day, gives a thorough explanation of the Santa Anas driving the wildfires. His segment on SoCal starts at about 3:30. As for the origin of the fires, I always suspect arson near large population centers.

Countless reports of mass fire insurance cancellation in SoCal, not surprising really, no insurer wants to cover a risk where the state and local governments don't manage fire risk, maintain reservoir levels and increase the fire risk which would result in massive claims bankrupting them.

The Palisades fire will burn to the ocean. That was predicted yesterday, once the winds picked up and aircraft were grounded.

Pretty crazy if true.

There may be more to the story as well, such as if the equipment was old, obsolete and/or written off for a variety of reasons.

Hearing anecdotal info from friends in LE & fire, that requests were made from the local fire stations and mid-level leadership, asking to stage or, pre-deploy to known problem-areas (such as cul-de-sacs, isolated developments, known fire zones etc...) a tactic that was done in the past during high-wind/Santa Ana threat conditions but, was denied by higher up's in LAFD citing concerns around overtime risk.

I had a connecting flight at LAX yesterday around 12:30pm. Coming from Sacramento, we normally turn east somewhere around Ventura/Malibu, head east over Santa Monica to downtown, then do a U-turn around east LA, then get in line for LAX.

However yesterday, the smoke was really bad and they sent us west over the ocean from Malibu and then U turn to land east bound to LAX.

Gnarly winds. From LAX, I could see that crazy amount of smoke from the Palisades area.

Instead of a little overtime to pre deploy it’s now all the overtime to fight. Saw the call go out to all personnel yesterday to call in with availability. Once the fires are out it’s time to replace leadership for their failure.

CA, Struggling With Massive Wildfires, Sent ‘Surplus’ Firefighting Equipment to Ukraine.

https://thenationalpulse.com/2...quipment-to-ukraine/

The Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACoFD) and several other departments across the United States sent supposedly “surplus” equipment, including fire engines and ambulances, to Ukraine over the past several years. According to critics, this has left the first responders in the U.S. depleted in the face of natural disasters, including the catastrophic floods in North Carolina and Tennessee, as well as the massive wildfires currently engulfing some of Los Angeles’s largest suburbs.

In 2022, the LACoFD announced it was sending surplus “hoses, nozzles, turnouts, helmets, body armor, and other associated personal protective equipment” to Ukraine to aid first responders amid the Russian invasion. Additionally, fire engines from Kern County, in central California, were donated to Ukraine—possibly limiting the ability to rush units from other parts of the state to Los Angeles to help combat the current conflagrations, which have seen thousands of acres and homes burned.

Currently, at least two civilians are reported dead in the Eaton Fire in Altadena, California. That fire and the Palisades Fire just west of downtown Los Angeles remain at zero percent containment. In the Pacific Palisades and Malibu, reports are emerging that insufficient water pressure to deliver water to fire hydrants is hampering containment efforts. Notably, Kern County, California, sent a 500-gallon water tanker to Ukraine late last year.

The transfer of U.S. munitions and equipment to Ukraine has long been a point of contention due to the impact on both first responders and American military readiness. The National Pulse has previously reported that the U.S. is set to begin outsourcing some weapons production to countries like Australia, Japan, Poland, and India after the military’s stockpiles have become dangerously low from supplying munitions to Ukraine.
