Even if the Ukrainians win, Russia's still going to be a long-term threat on the border whether there's actually fighting or not - which would explain looking at long term commitments. We did the same in Germany and no one ever called that a quagmire.

Of course, that's if Ukraine wins. If Russia wins then we get to reinforce all of Russia's immediate neighbors who are NATO members - and guess who's going to get the lion's share of the bill for protecting that hundreds-of-miles-long border?

As for Russia's apparent advantages, they've reconfigured their stated goals from taking over the country to taking over the capitol to trying, ever so slowly, to grab fifteen square miles in the east of the country that they may or may not have the forces to actually keep in the face of a counteroffensive. They're digging so deep into their manpower and material barrels that its still an open question as to whether they can sustain the offensive they're engaged in now.

Backing Ukraine until it wins back all of its territory is still our best bet - Uncah Ho or no.

Biden Announces Another $1 Billion in Cash to “Help Ukraine Families Purchase Essential Items”

The White House shares the contents of another phone call between Joe Biden and Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy today in a media release. According to the details of the call, a generous Joe Biden has directed another $1 billion in aid to the laundry operation in order to assist Ukraine “families to purchase essential items.”

WHITE HOUSE – “This morning, I spoke with President Zelenskyy to discuss Russia’s brutal and ongoing war against Ukraine.

[…] I informed President Zelenskyy that the United States is providing another $1 billion in security assistance for Ukraine.

[…] We also remain committed to supporting the Ukrainian people whose lives have been ripped apart by this war. Today, I am also announcing an additional $225 million in humanitarian assistance to help people inside Ukraine, including by supplying safe drinking water, critical medical supplies and health care, food, shelter, and cash for families to purchase essential items.” (read more)

Imagine if he used $1b to invest in drilling/refining... We could solve the energy crisis and bankrupt Russia in one move. Open ANWR, open the Gulf, build pipelines, and support American oil.

The way to green energy is capitalism. American innovation will make better batteries, make better solar, make better wind turbines, chase fusion energy, build tidal turbines, and a ton of ideas we've never thought of. Capitalism has brought the starving food and uplifted billions from poverty. We've solved problems people didn't think would ever be solved. We will solve the carbon problem too.

I wonder how much of all these billions are finding a circle back to U.S. politicians. Remember Hunter Biden and Ukrainian Burisma, Kerry and Pelosi's sons doing all the deals in Ukraine. None of this money is being accounted for. The weapons and money are just given to Ukraine and there is zero accountability about where it is going.

Certain Ukrainians will become filthy rich while they send their comrades to be slaughtered by the Russians. A settlement to stop the fighting will never occur as long as the leadership gets billions upon billions of dollars to do with as they please.

Ukraine was corrupt before the injection of over 50 billion dollars.

Exactly.
It's a $40 BILLION slush fund... with no accountability or audits. Who knows how much will actually make it to the Ukrainians?
And now MORE!

Even if it totally tanks the US economy and all of us with it? I think not. Washington is bleeding this country dry to accomplish....nothing (short of lining the pockets of the absolute worst among us).

Honest question. Do you think anyone in Washington gives a fiddler's damn about the Ukrainian people? And this incontinent POS fouling himself in our White House offers up another billion to Ukraine to "buy essentials". Hey you stupid MF, people right here can't make ends meet and are losing their savings at breakneck speed, but while your administration has them bent over the desk you opt to drive it in just a little deeper. Oh yeah, I'm way beyond dislike and disgust, and hip deep into pure hatred of this asshole.

The Ukraine war isn't going to tank the US economy any more than it's currently causing the high price of gasoline. If anything is going to tank the US economy, it's going to be all of Uncah Ho's mindless "policies" put together.

When Joey Bag of Stupid keeps handing out billions of US dollars we don't have at a time when inflation is running rampant and out of control, then yes his policies, his abject stupidity, and his utterly asinine behavior in dealing with this Ukraine BS is most assuredly making this country less safe and much poorer.

IMO there would be zero difference between a president Biden and a president Harris. Both are utterly incompetent, and both will do exactly as they're told to do by their masters behind the curtain. Either way, the 'president' would have zero to do with running this country.

We all know by now that Joe has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with policy, or running the country. Right?
And neither will the Ho, if she takes his place for some reason.

it's going to be all of Uncah Ho's mindless "policies" put together?

So, individually... they are OK?
It's just in combination that they are bad?

Yes, it's death by a thousand cuts... but that doesn't make each individual cut harmless.

Chellim, that's just silly. I didn't say anything of the kind. What I did do is make the point that Biden is making a number of mistakes that are hurting the economy, and that the combined effect of those mistakes dwarfs the effect of any US spending on the Ukraine war on the US economy.

^^^ Yeah, but the $50 billion US spending on the Ukraine war is part of the whole. It's one cut of many. It's death by a thousand cuts... and I'm opposed to every one of them.

BTW: If we wanted to balanced the budget, we could. Well, WE can't, but Congress can. They CHOOSE deficit spending. If it were up to me, I would balance the budget and then it would be possible to grow the economy to the point that the debt would be manageable.

^^^ Well then maybe it makes sense to focus your ire. If you're busy opposing the small stuff, you're taking time away from opposing the big stuff like inflation, restricted petroleum production and transportation at home, and larding agencies with reflexively left wing loons.

Biden Admin Quietly Urging Companies To Purchase Russian Fertilizer

https://www.zerohedge.com/mark...e-russian-fertilizer

The Biden administration has been quietly urging agricultural and shipping companies to buy and carry more Russian fertilizer, according to Bloomberg, citing people familiar with the efforts.

The move comes as fears over sanctions have led to a sharp drop in supplies, contributing to the ongoing 'spiraling global food costs.'

With Moscow being a key supplier of fertilizer, the US and EU have included exemptions on sanctions against doing business with Russia - however many shippers, banks and insurers have been cautiously staying away out of fear that they might accidentally run afoul of the rules in an expensive lesson. Now, US officials are trying to encourage activity in the space.

Exports of Russian fertilizer are notably down 24% YTD.

As Bloomberg notes, the new push by Washington underscores the current challenge facing the west - which seeks to punish Russian President Vladimir Putin over the invasion of Ukraine, while also easing pressure on economy-damaging food inflation during an election year in America. Since the war began in February, already-high inflation spiked further - a point Putin regularly makes while railing against sanctions.

Earlier this month, the Biden admin sent a representative to UN-led talks with Moscow regarding supply issues - as insufficient deliveries of fertilizer could also negatively affect next year's crops.
