OK ladies and gentleman we have a strong MS-13 surge coming in from the west. Please dress appropriately for the weather. Level four body armor, duty pistol, BUG, long gun, and six spare mags. Please call in to the storm team 9 weather desk to report any sightings of bloods or crips in your neighborhood.

Ask any street cop if weather affects crime rate and you will get a resounding YES. When it is too wet or too cold crime rates, including shootings, go way down. I have yet to see "too hot" effect any crime rate (domestics go way up just like they do for 3 day weekends). I've always loved the way cities and police departments take credit for a drop in crime that occurred during a lengthy cold spell. Only to see that drop in crime quickly disappear the first warm day.

Property crimes, strong arm robberies (we don't have that anymore thanks to post Mike Brown legislation explained below*) along with assaults from fights goes way down in my area (St. Louis County) when the Cardinals or Blues are playing home games....why do you ask; more security on the Metro Link trains = less shitheads out and about.

* We all know that Gentle Giant Mike Brown choked the store owner when he stole some cigarillos, which was Robbery 2nd aka Strong Arm Robbery (using or threatening the use of physical force or injury to commit the crime). After Ferguson, one of the changes was completely modifying 2nd Degree Robbery to causing significant injury (bruises and soft tissue injuries don't count). Basically significant injuries is stitches, casts for broken bones or surgery. So under the new law, Mike Brown would have only committed stealing under and minor assault. All part of the anti-incarceration agenda brought to us by Soros sponsored progressive Prosecuting Attorneys.

I did a pretty extensive Google search-- as well as DuckDuckGO-- and there is not one story about Empire reinstating him. If this were genuine news, it would be breaking news everywhere.

Keystoner is repeating fake news, or making stuff up.

The only "source" that I saw was pretty flaky.

Taraji Henson is an actress who plays on Empire.

'Empire' star Taraji P. Henson says Jussie Smollett will be back in Season 6

When asked if Smollett will return for Season 6 now that the charges have been dropped, Henson seemed certain he'll be back.

“Yes. I haven’t heard anything else,” she said. “I haven’t heard anything.”

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

so there you go. She is certain he will be back, but she hasn't heard anything

Perhaps she's just "optimistic," or perhaps she knows the thinking of the producers of the show.

If it's the former, then she feels no disgust for Smollett for the hoax he perpetrated - no disgust for the attempt at creating civil unrest across the country, and no qualms about the thought that if there had been two White guys in the area that night, they most likely would have been falsely accused. That's makes her a very undesirable person.

If it's the latter, then the same can be said about the producers of the show.

The city of Chicago sued actor Jussie Smollett on Thursday for the cost of investigating his controversial case, as promised, one week after the "Empire" actor refused to reimburse the city.

In a statement obtained by Fox News, the city's law department said on Thursday that it filed a civil complaint against Smollett, 36, in the Circuit Court of Cook County "that pursues the full measure of damages allowed under the false statements ordinance."

"This follows his refusal to reimburse the City of Chicago for the cost of police overtime spent investigating his false police report on January 29, 2019," the statement added.

The lawsuit doesn't include a specific monetary figure, but suggests the amount the city will seek from Smollett will be higher than the $130,000 sought earlier.

A rep for Smollett had no comment when reached by Fox News. Attorneys for Smollett did not immediately respond to Fox News' request for comment

As previously reported, the city delivered a letter to Smollett's legal team late last month seeking $130,000 from the actor, covering "overtime hours in the investigation of this matter." The letter went on to say that if the amount was not paid within seven days, the city might prosecute Smollett "for making a false statement" or "pursue any other legal remedy available at law."

The civil complaint filed on Thursday outlined what city attorneys said Smollett did. The suit claimed that Smollett — who allegedly became friends with Abel Osundairo in 2017, per the docs — texted Abel in late January: "Might need your help on the low. You around to meet up and talk face to face?”

The complaint further alleged, "that same day, January 25, 2019, GPS records and video evidence indicate that [the] Defendant [Smollett] drove Abel from Empire’s Cinespace Studio to Abel’s apartment," and that "during the ride, [Smollett] stated that he was unhappy with the way his employers handled a racist and homophobic letter he had allegedly received three days earlier, and, as a result, he wanted to stage an attack where Abel would appear to batter him."

Kim Foxx's chief spokeswoman suddenly departs amid fallout over handling of Jussie Smollett's prosecution
foxx
Cook County State's Attorney Kim Foxx, shown in January 2019, has requested an investigation of her office's handling of the Smollett case by the county's inspector general and announced April 19 that she would have no further comment on it until that investigation is completed. (Brian Cassella/Chicago Tribune)

Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx’s chief spokeswoman has left her post amid the fallout over the office’s abrupt dismissal of all charges against “Empire” actor Jussie Smollett.

The sudden departure comes as a document dump earlier this week revealed that the office was largely caught flat-footed by the massive negative response to the stunning reversal to let Smollett walk despite allegedly staging an attack on himself.

Office spokeswoman Tandra Simonton confirmed that Kiera Ellis, who held the title of director of external affairs, was no longer with the office. Simonton declined to elaborate, including on whether Ellis had been fired or when she left.

Ellis, who joined the office in October, had been on the job and answering text messages from a Tribune reporter as recently as Thursday. But calls to her Friday went unanswered.

Shortly before 5 p.m., however, she sent an email addressed to colleagues with the subject line “Thank you and let’s stay in touch!”

“Working with Kim and the State’s Attorney’s Office was the opportunity of a lifetime,” Ellis wrote. “It has been an absolute honor to serve the people of Cook County. I’ve left to pursue another exciting opportunity, which I will share with you soon.”

Ellis’ departure comes as two other high-level Foxx deputies submitted their separate resignations, both effective May 3.

April Perry, a former federal prosecutor who was brought on as Foxx’s chief ethics officer, is taking a job as general counsel for a tech startup, according to an internal email from Foxx obtained by the Chicago Tribune.

Mark Rotert, a longtime criminal defense lawyer who held federal and state posts before that, acknowledged in a telephone interview that he is stepping down after almost two years leading the office’s Conviction Integrity Unit, which reviews alleged wrongful convictions.

As Foxx’s chief spokeswoman, Ellis handled much of the public relations response after the dismissal of all 16 felony charges against Smollett at an unannounced court hearing last month sparked widespread controversy and condemnation.

What happened? A timeline of the Jussie Smollett case »

Texts released Tuesday night to the Tribune in response to a public records request show that both prosecutors and the communications team, including Ellis, were caught by surprise by the highly negative reaction. The office scrambled to coordinate its messaging and futilely tried to tamp down the heated controversy.

“Just wish I could have anticipated the magnitude of this response and planned a bit better!” Assistant State’s Attorney Risa Lanier, the lead prosecutor on the high-profile case, texted Joseph Magats, Foxx’s first assistant, hours after the charges were dropped.

“There’s really no planning for this,” Magats responded. “It’s the right decision.”

“I agree and absolutely stand by the decision made,” Lanier replied.

In addition, it appeared the prosecutor’s office notified Chicago police only moments before the charges were dropped as reporters were already gathering in the courtroom — only after being tipped off by a publicist for Smollett’s legal team.

“It appears as if Jussie’s press person may have notified the press,” Lanier texted three spokespeople on the morning the case was dismissed.

A short time later, Ellis texted back to say she had notified a Police Department spokesman who would tell Superintendent Eddie Johnson.

About 10 minutes later, Foxx texted Magats: “Eddie just called. (He) needed to know how to answer questions from press.”

Foxx said she told Johnson that Smollett’s charges were dismissed since he completed community service and gave his bond money — $10,000 — to the city.

“He seemed satisfied with the explanation,” Foxx told Magats.

However, Johnson and Mayor Rahm Emanuel held a news conference that morning slamming the decision — “a whitewash of justice,” the mayor said bluntly.

Foxx withdrew herself from the case in February after she had been in contact with one of Smollett’s relatives early during the investigation. But Foxx’s office has since said she removed herself from the case only informally, since an actual recusal would have required her entire office to step aside and request the appointment of a special prosecutor.

Smollett found himself in an international media firestorm after he reported being the victim of a Jan. 29 attack by two people who shouted slurs, hit him and wrapped a noose around his neck. Police initially treated the incident as a hate crime, but their focus turned to Smollett after two brothers alleged to have been his attackers told detectives that Smollett had paid them $3,500 to stage the attack, with a promise of an additional $500 later.

The move to drop charges has provoked fierce criticism. Emanuel’s administration has sued to try to force Smollett to reimburse Chicago for the more than $130,000 in overtime police expenses spent investigating the alleged hoax, even though the charges were dropped.

Foxx has faced pressure to explain in more detail why Smollett’s prosecution of was abandoned just a few weeks after the charges were brought. In an op-ed in the Tribune, she backed off her office’s initial stance that the case was strong, writing that prosecutors were uncertain of a conviction, but she offered no specifics.

At her request, Cook County Inspector General Patrick Blanchard agreed last week to investigate the office’s handling of the Smollett case.

On Friday, Foxx issued a statement saying she would not be commenting further on the Smollett case until after Blanchard completed his review.

Foxx, who beat incumbent Anita Alvarez by bashing her handling of the Laquan McDonald fatal police shooting, appointed several former federal prosecutors to high-level posts after assuming office in late 2016.

Perry’s upcoming departure will mark the third of the former federal prosecutors to leave Foxx’s office in the past year.

Rotert, himself a federal prosecutor years ago, warned against drawing any conclusions from those departures, however, saying all three left for varying reasons. He also noted that it is common for senior-level attorneys in government offices to rotate out after a few years.

Simonton, the office’s remaining spokeswoman, said the departures of both Rotert and Perry had nothing to do with the Smollett case.

Foxx has said she consulted with Perry on how to proceed after being in contact with one of Smollett’s relatives in the early phases of the investigation. Perry wrote the memo to staffers in February saying Foxx had “recused” herself from the Smollett matter.

The Conviction Integrity Unit, led by Rotert since the summer of 2017, is purposely kept separate from the office’s everyday matters.

Rotert said he has been planning for months to retire this spring. His only involvement in the Smollett case came recently when he acted as a liaison between the office and the county inspector general’s office after Foxx requested the independent review.

Thanks for posting that. Like everyone else I was upset when charges were dropped, but less so now. It seems to be the gift that keeps on giving, with this mess and Democrat misconduct staying in the news. He would not have received a significant penalty anyway. And now the brothers are suing his lawyers. Maybe a link here...

a few weeks ago, I posted:

"I know this won't happen, but it would be good to see the Osundairo brothers sue Smollett for defamation."

Well I was partly wrong. The brothers are suing Smollett's attorneys

https://chicago.suntimes.com/?...l&utm_source=twitter

The Osundairo brothers contend in a federal lawsuit filed Tuesday that “Empire” actor Jussie Smollett paid them “a sum of money to stage the attack [against Smollett] to benefit himself” and “ directed every aspect of the attack, including the location and the noose .”

The brothers were initially arrested as suspects in the alleged attack in January on Smollett, only to be released later. They make the claim in a lawsuit against two of Smollett’s defense attorneys, Mark Geragos and Tina Glandian, who continued to say in media appearances that the brothers engaged in the attack. The brothers are suing under claims of defamation and false light.

The brothers contend in the lawsuit that “Mr. Smollett used his clout as a wealthy actor to influence Plaintiffs, who were in a subordinate relationship to him and were aspiring to ‘make it’ in Hollywood.”

The brothers add: “Mr. Smollett’s motivation was simple. He wanted his employer and the public to notice and appreciate him as a successful black, openly gay actor. So, Mr. Smollett directed every aspect of the attack, including the location and the noose.”

Smollett has remained steadfast that he is innocent. Olabinjo and Abimbola “Bola” Osundairo are suing his attorneys, but not Smollett himself, as the lawyers continued to maintain in media appearances that the brothers were responsible for the attack, with Glandian going so far to suggest the two men may have been wearing “whiteface” to disguise their identities during the attack.

The lawsuit also contends Glandian suggested on a podcast that Smollett and Bola Osundairo briefly engaged in homosexual acts. The lawsuit contends that suggestion caused Bola Osundairo severe distress. He is heterosexual, was dating a woman at the time and liked visiting his family in Nigeria, where same-sex activity is illegal and can result in 14 years in prison or “death by stoning” if the accused is married, according to the lawsuit.

Glandian also is alleged to have said on the podcast that the brothers engaged in illegal steroid trafficking, which the body-building brothers deny.
