the pope asserts that the common destination of the earth’s goods “requires that this principle also be applied to nations, their territories and their resources.”

“Seen from the standpoint not only of the legitimacy of private property and the rights of its citizens, but also of the first principle of the common destination of goods,” the pontiff writes, “we can then say that each country also belongs to the foreigner, inasmuch as a territory’s goods must not be denied to a needy person coming from elsewhere.”

“If every human being possesses an inalienable dignity, if all people are my brothers and sisters, and if the world truly belongs to everyone,” he writes, “then it matters little whether my neighbour was born in my country or elsewhere.”

“Certainly, all this calls for an alternative way of thinking,” the pope acknowledges. “Without an attempt to enter into that way of thinking, what I am saying here will sound wildly unrealistic.”

yes Pope Francis, you do sound "wildly unrealistic"

Is he saying the gold in the Vatican is up for grabs to those more needy than him?

In principle, this jibes neatly with natural law as laid out in de Vattel's "Law of Nations". The difference is that natural law stresses that the first duty of a nation's government is to the nation's people, and it is no violation of natural law to refuse foreigners the benefits of a nation where doing so conflicts with the interests of people from that nation - including their interest in maintaining stable, orderly government and borders. The Pope just didn't read far enough.

Suspect he is trying to attract more customers/fools by addressing the "woke" crowd. The church has lost a lot of faithful by allowing homosexuality in the priesthood which has been going on for a long time. Decades or is it millennium?

I believe he's saying the Vatican doesn't have enough gold for anything other than the Vatican and as a result, the rest of world needs to give up their gold for the Vatican to distribute.

This Pope is a GDC.

And as a Catholic, I will say Yes, this Pope is significantly damaging Catholic church.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

To me he sounds wildly communistic. The deep irony of this is lost on him, I am sure. He's either a dope or a fascist posing as a Christian.

This MIGHT have just a bit more credibility if the vatican were to donate a single painting, tapestry, or other article in its possession "for the poor" of the world. . . I visited there in 1994, and it is amazing what amount of wealth and affluence is packed into a mere 16 acres (for my share as a 'citizen of the world,' I would settle for a couple rifles and several cases of ammo from the Swiss Guard armory in the basement which, unfortunately, was not on the tour that day).

Of course, like most leftists, he is preaching that you and I should sacrifice "for the poor," not himself. I've never been Catholic, but I do miss John Paul II. He was an amazing human being (especially the part in 1983 where he met and prayed with the Turkish would-be assassin who shot him four times).

Europe's downtrodden and homeless should all flock to the Vatican. What could go wrong?

I had the good fortune to meet John Paul II at the Vatican when I was a student and to attend mass with him three times, a couple in the US. He was an amazing human being.

As for preaching that you and I should sacrifice "for the poor," not himself, like all leftists, he misses the truth by a country mile. Charity is voluntary. It's not charity if it's coerced or forced by any form of government. Socialism/communism is not charity. It's forced bondage or servitude.

As a devout Catholic revert, I can assure all of my SigForum friends that there is an attack on the true Catholic Church by leftists. I fear that Pope Francis is either a part of it, or being used by those orchestrating the attack. All I can do is pray about it and ask that St. Peter's successor have a change of heart toward the evils of communism and Marxism that we were all warned about at Fatima.

Luckily, there are true Catholic men rising up from within the Church who are speaking the truth. Watch this, you won't be disappointed.

YOU CANNOT BE CATHOLIC AND BE A DEMOCRAT. PERIOD.

Absolutely. Empty the church's bank accounts and investments, sell all the gold/jewelry, sell all the artwork to museums and rid the church of the massive staff. Use the money for all those "coming from elsewhere" as you say.

Then, and MAYBE then, we'll start thinking about what you say.

The Vatican library contains some really neat shit. Frankie should put his money where his mouth is and call Sotheby's ASAP. Just think of all them po folks that you could help... Didn't think so Frankie. These assholes always seem to apply this to everyone but themselves.

There's a HUGE difference between giving because you want to and having someone take your stuff and redistribute it.
