Some things are worth it. I love the idea, and if I develop a need for merchant services processing more than once or twice a year, then I'll gladly pay more to do business with a conservative company.

I'm sure there are other people here that this would make sense for.

It took them three days since my request but I just received word that my data has been deleted and my account is closed. I'd been with them since 2006 but had used it only two or three times over the past couple of years for minor purchases. Adios, PayPal.

I’d give a fair amount to be in the exec meeting rooms now at PayPal. They were a client of mine ~15 years ago.

I have some funny anecdotal stories from that client.
Probably would bore most of y’all though.

Although, the funniest time was when I got on a client conference call 10 minutes early and the PMs got on top of the hour just talking shit about us right away to the sponsoring VP.

It was too late to chime in and let them know I was listening. I ended up texting my boss real quick letting him know what the hell was going on.

I had to wait until they hung up before I dropped. There was a telltale chime I didn’t want to trigger. Learned a little bit about some people that day. Fortunately their boss was an experienced guy, who could grok those bitches. Lmao!

Consumer Financial Protection Bureau considers investigating PayPal over fining people for legal speech

PayPal says that it may fine users $2,500 for promoting "intolerance that is discriminatory."

By Cindy Harper - Posted 9:03 pm

Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) director Rohit Chopra said he was considering investigating PayPal over a now-retracted update to the user agreement that said users would be fined $2,500 for spreading misinformation.

“I’ve never actually never heard of a payment system thinking that it could fine someone for legal expression that their users are making,” Chopra told CNBC.

Got my cancellation confirmations yesterday. Multiple emails and certainly later than I would’ve thought. Things must be a mess over there. Smile Still no notice yet on the data deletion.

Got my confirmation today for cancellation. Like SIGnified, I am waiting on data deletion confirmation.

Glad they asked for comment when I requested the cancellation. Simply stated, "Get woke, go broke". Hope it stung a little when they read it. Tired of everyone trying to mandate their BS on others. If you want to be in business, conduct business. You want to be in politics, then run for office.

I cancelled my two accounts, I’ve had the personal account for 17 years. In the comments box, I simply typed “You know why.”.

Here is what I received about deleting my data. Basically, they’ll only delete some.

Another 180.
I've received no notification of PayPal policy updates. I just logged in to PayPal. No notification of a policy update appeared. I manually checked for policy updates. No such policy updates noted there, either.

We’re writing to confirm your PayPal account has been closed."

I forgot I had the account; had to use it to pay for a track day registration a long time ago.

Crap!

PayPal owns Venmo apparently … bullshit nonsense. Pernicious ties still persist.

Got to go delete another account. Unfortunately, I use that one occasionally.

Fox Business reported this morning that the punitive statement still is contained within their terms of service.

Seems they have learned nothing from this episode of wokeness.

I guess they figure that anyone who has not cancelled their account by now, must be good with the changes, so, what the heck. Big Grin

How do you explain to someone that they are insane? They won't believe you. If you try to prove to them that they ain't right in the head they will simply rationalize whatever evidence you present.

like many here I cancelled my account with PayPal, to remain in bed with them at this point is beyond mere justifying abusive behavior, it's rewarding pathetic commie dictatorship behavior by voluntarily handing them money.

I don't care how much more difficult the steps are to pay for my next Ebay junk order or bottle of steak sauce from that website in Texas. Better to not even buy that crap than reward PayPal.

It turns out they put nothing back. Apparently the terms currently in the ToS have been there for over a year:
quote:

By contrast, the clause that Knauff and others took issue with this week isn’t a new policy at all. Both the list of prohibited activities and the associated $2,500 fine have existed since September 2021.

It seems the $2,500 in damages section and the long and broad list of prohibited activities dates back to September 2021 (last year). https://t.co/BgoQjgX6IC pic.twitter.com/VZGoElFcqB

Full article: No, PayPal Did Not Resurrect Its ‘Misinformation’ Penalty

As the article notes:
quote:

Yet the story gets even more complicated: While Paypal’s current Acceptable Use Policy contains no mention of “misinformation,” its user agreement essentially does—and has since at least February 12, 2022.

The agreement reads that PayPal users may not “provide false, inaccurate or misleading information,” in connection with PayPal, its website, services, or “third parties.” Those who do so may see their accounts suspended, limited, or closed, and PayPal may take legal action.

In short, no surprise changes have been made to PayPal’s policy this week. While the company does levy punishments toward users for certain forms of “misleading statements” under its user agreement (and has for months), a $2,500 fine is not explicitly one of them.
None of this is by way of justifying what PayPal tried, what they've done, or what they may do next. Just pointing-out the facts.

Just got this email from Milspin

PayPal Fuc*ed Us.

PayPal, without warning, locked our account and are withholding all funds until we comply with their request to delete all of the products on our website that they do not agree with.

We Will Not Comply. Obviously.

Any orders that were paid for via PayPal will still be fulfilled as normal, because we aren't thieves and we put our customers first, unlike PayPal.

***All new ordres can still be placed with a credit card, Amazon Pay, Shop Pay, Google Pay, etc.***
