I agree with much of your post. I’m no longer the fan I once was (2009 Favre across the body broke my spirit), but my son is obsessed with anything football so it is a great bonding opportunity for us. We go to one game a year and mostly I can separate the politics and social agendas from what is happening on the field, but I hold my nose every time I have to spend money on the NFL. That said, I’ll eat a little stench for the payoff I get with my kid or with sharing some time with buddies at the cigar shop watching a game. ___________________________ All it takes...is all you got. ____________________________ For those who have fought for it, Freedom has a flavor the protected will never know ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ

Did you get searched by some nitwit at the gate? This last fall I walked by Lumen Field (Seattle) about an hour before one of the games started. I'll be damned, they had metal detectors and people waiting in lines at the detectors. It gets worse, unlike at the airport, they wouldn't let any bags in, not even a normal sized purse. I saw some people with small clear plastic bags, and I guess they were ok if they were clear plastic. But What the hell is this voluntary search by someone who lacks any credentials about? Then there was another line across the street where there was a box truck run by some entrepreneurs, and people were checking bags there. Yeah, like I'd trust that -- in Seattle. No Way. But, the point is, are you freaking kidding me, you get metal detected at the gate. No thanks. Which brings me back to why I started to hate the NFL in the 90's: The NFL gave a boat-load of money to oppose pro-CCW laws, the leading example being the proposed Missouri CCW law that didn't pass at the time, largely because of the influence (and money) of the NFL. This is well documented, as the NFL was afraid of what CCW would do to their games. Oh, the 49er's donated $500k to anti-gun causes. Also well documented. They cited silencers as something they wanted more control over, among other things. So yeah, I've hated the NFL before it was popular to hate them I was a bit early on calling that one correctly, but I have been indeed correct, since about 1997. I didn't even touch on the public funding that benefits the NFL. That's another matter altogether. . .

I’m a fan of womens pro tennis. It ain’t the Martina Navratilova days anymore. Lots of beautiful in shape women that play from many countries. What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone

Disappointing. I’m dumbfounded. Maybe I have been living under a rock, but today is the first time I have heard of the “black national anthem”. I find this incredibly divisive. I really am not being sarcastic. I just don’t even know what to say. The “lol” thread

Drill Here, Drill Now |
I was a lifelong suffering Detroit Lions fan who grew up watching them every week and averaged attending 1 game a year. However, I hadn't watched NFL in years as the NFL's BS (e.g. kneeling) had driven me away and that included the Lions' BS. All season, my Dad kept telling me they're different this year and the coach had really brought an old school, working class mentality to the team. I flew up to my hometown twice this year for other reasons, but while watching the game with Dad had to admit that it was pretty refreshing to watch the Lions play, give interviews, read stories about their star players doing things for fans, etc. as it reminded me of the '83 Lions team (a fun loving team that blew the lead in the playoff game against the 49ers). I even began watching them on my own again for the first time in many, many years. This year, they were top 2 Lions teams in my lifetime and top 3 Lions teams in Dad's lifetime. Is the NFL back to being the league of my youth? Nope Do the Lions players hate their fans? Nope Do the players on the other 31 teams hate their fans? I have no idea, but I didn't see the 7 or 8 Lions opponents do it. Am I going to watch the Super Bowl? Nope If the Lions would not have choked in the 2nd half of the NFC Championship, would I be be watching the Super Bowl? Absofrickinglutely Ego is the anesthesia that deadens the pain of stupidity DISCLAIMER: These are the author's own personal views and do not represent the views of the author's employer.

I generally liked football and watching it, its taken quite a while to get to this point. But the silliness with the NFL and the NIL/Portal nonsense in college football makes me ready to drop it all together. I don't feel like its a sport anymore. 10 years to retirement! Just waiting!

Unfortunately this has been standard at pretty much any college sporting event for many years now as well. Most definitely football. Not sure about high school, doubt it there other that at TX mega stadiums. You only have integrity once. - imprezaguy02

I can remember bringing my own beer to sporting events. With a big enough coat you could bring in a 12-pack. That all ended with the metal detectors. I suspected at the time it was more about losing money on concessions than safety. "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." -- Justice Janice Rogers Brown "The United States government is the largest criminal enterprise on earth." -rduckwor

Had a conversation with a co-worker and he reminded me of the other big attraction surrounding the SB: Gambling. Not just on who wins the game, but things like who wins the coin toss, which player scores the first TD, the score after each quarter, and about 20 other things which one could gamble on within the game itself. So yeah, I'm happy distancing myself from not just the SB itself, but the gambling aspect as well. .

My town's LARGE stadium, which serves both high schools, has metal detectors as you walk in. Not sure how sensitive they are, though. I'm sure they'd detect a firearm... Winters (1918-2011), E Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne "Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil... Therefore, as tongues of fire lick up straw and as dry grass sinks down in the flames, so their roots will decay and their flowers blow away like dust; for they have rejected the law of the Lord Almighty and spurned the word of the Holy One of Israel." - Isaiah 5:20,24
