I hope you told that to the manger. _________________________________________________________________________ “A man’s treatment of a dog is no indication of the man’s nature, but his treatment of a cat is. It is the crucial test. None but the humane treat a cat well.” -- Mark Twain, 1902

The last time I got shit service from a waiter I put "0" in the tip blank. He confronted me with "What, no tip?" I told him his service was shit, no refills, etc, and he asked again about a tip. I told him to see my rabbi, he had plenty of 'em.

WTH? I'll bet you if that was a franchisee, that was a local policy and not a company policy. I'd take that to the company level and let them know what kind of crap that manager is pulling. That actually sounds kinda illegal.

I did and sent an email to the corporate offices. As for the name of the place, I’ll hold that until I get a response from their corporate office. “Government exists to protect us from each other. Thank you Very little |
It's not nefarious, nor is it a plot to add customers to the "no tip" list, The digital tip option is a function of the massive move in society from cash to cashless transactions. Consider that many consumers have different ideas on what they use to pay, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Zelle, Paypal, tap and go cards are the norm for many. Since this conversion is happening, it's now got to critical mass as it will eventually surpass cash as an option to pay. No cash payments means the tip jar is going to be bare at the end of the day. In order to "tap" into the tips market to keep it viable, the solution is to add it to POS machine code as an option. Remember you may not feel it's worthy of a tip, but some customers do, they appreciate the service or just are in a good mood, and want to tip, they pay electronically so, the tip option work for them.... For those paying electronically the tips now received from excess cash will dry up, the people who normally show appreciation for the smile, good attitude, thank you and filling orders properly will use the option. I carry ones for this reason, no tip, and drop a dollar in the jar, they appreciate it, I don't fee bad for pressing no, and agree the system does add peer pressure to tip. Wonder if tips have gone up as a result overall, which would be another reason for a merchant to add it to checkout. Imagine being able to add 20% to a sale on every item, putting the tips into a bucket and then keeping some percentage for the house...

I don't like it either but, I know the owner of a small rural bar and grill that recently switched to that type of system. He told me that the processing charges from his old POS equipment was raping him, the processing charges of the new "thing" is putting 11k a year in his pocket of excess fees he was being charged by the old system (he still charges 3.5% card fee) so you can see why the owners are going that route. Then I asked him why 32% was at the top of tipping options and he replied it scrolls to zero if you feel that my help deserves it. “Let us dare to read, think, speak and write.” John Adams

I went through a fully automated car wash yesterday, and yes, on the menu there was an option to add a tip. No one's life, liberty or property is safe while the legislature is in session.- Mark Twain

If it wasn't something you were expected to tip for 10 years ago it shouldn't be expected now "Pickin' stones and pullin' teats is a hard way to make a living. I wonder if the beggars at intersections have card reader apps for their smartphones. Maybe Salvation Army kettles can have a kiosk. Peeps working low wage jobs just expect others to fix their situation for them. Or, they will act out. Expected and encouraged by todays left stream media

A tip is earned, not deserved. Sit down restaurants, we will give the server cash, because I don't want to put a tip on the CC, and a lot of places use DEI principles when they distribute tips. Shirkers get the same as hard chargers. Fast food restaurants or convenience stores, no tip. But I say that, because recently they are panhandling for tips. I almost exclusively use cash at these locations, and a few places are still using the old "change shortage" ploy and ask to keep the change. I say "No" in a firm voice and extend my hand for MY change. In my AO, we tried to go to a new restaurant last Sunday with a few church folks, less than 10. The restaurant had a sign stating 30% gratuity added to parties of 6 or more. Seating was limited, and we observed the service other tables were getting. Look back to my first comment. We all left without being seated and went elsewhere.

I always leave a decent cash tip for wait service folks if they deserve it. The management does not need to know what I left and if they choose not to claim it, that is their business. I did recently see a suggested tip line that was printed on a receipt that started at 22% qnd went up drastically from there. If I recall it actually ended at 50%. Bullshit! That is outrageous. Around here it used to be pretty customary for restaurants to add an automatic 18% gratuity for a party over a certain number like 12 people. 30% is insane, especially with how restaurant menu prices have gone way up.

Kettle Pay has been a thing with the SA since 2019, people who carry cash are becoming a thing of the past, writing checks is going away, can't remember the last time I saw someone write a check at a grocery store. Haven't seen one here, or maybe didn't look closely.... Link

Thank god. Waiting around behind Betty while she rummages through her purse for her checkbook, then a pen, then her reading glasses, then for her to scratch out a check, then dig around for her driver's license, etc. Only for the check to bounce a week later and the store then has to spend time and money going after her for hot checks. Personal checks are antiquated instruments, and the fact that they're quickly going the way of the Dodo is not a bad thing.

I'm sure the response you'll get will be one of those "Thanks for sharing your opinion" brush off replies, so I am also looking forward to knowing the name of this chain. Before I stopped going to Starbucks, I hated seeing that tip jar prominently placed in front of the register. I always got just a plain coffee, not one of those triple-soy, extra-hot, half-whip lattes. So, no, I'm not going to tip the "barista" for pouring coffee into a paper cup. _____________________________________________________________________ “One of the common failings among honorable people is a failure to appreciate how thoroughly dishonorable some other people can be, and how dangerous it is to trust them.” – Thomas Sowell

I still use them (but I'm as old as a Dodo). I write checks each month for hangar rent and a personal storage unit. I generally pay for household repairs by check -- just had a visit from the air conditioning dudes this week, paid by check. I have purchased a few things from SIGforum members. I offer Zelle, but if they don't take Zelle I usualy pay by check. My gun club charges a ten dollar fee for bringing guests in. Most people pay cash, but I want to leave "chicken tracks" in case I am questioned by a Board Nazi about whether I paid the fee for my guest(s), so I leave a check in the box instead of cash. I do NOT use checks at a grocery store, nor most other retail places. הרחפת שלי מלאה בצלופחים
