This is the primary reason why- before we disallowed discussion of these shootings altogether- I asked members to wait a while (several hours, minimum, and a full day was preferable) before posting this stuff. The main thing they were doing, after they related what they thought they'd been told by unidentified LE sources (which I related in my previous post) was interviewing the father of a student on-campus who was (I think?) a retired LEO. All it was was a bunch of uninformed, pointless blather and speculation.

That's when we shut it off.

Summary of briefing from MSP MSU Police: Five people shot and wounded, some critically. They have a photo of a suspect--which they'll release soon. Short-stature black male with jeans wearing a jean jacket, a ball cap and red shoes.

(Reason for the corrections was mis-reporting by one of the "news" orgs & my later finding the correct info.)

So Goddamned silly. Apparently, every police officer in Michigan is there.

The Live press conference With MSU Police Chief confirmed one fatality and five additional people injured, some with life threatening injuries.

Initial shooting occurred at Berkey Hall. The shooter then moved to the Union close by where others were shot. This second incident occurred as officers arrived at Berkey Hall.

This is a significant police response. It is clear that students are calling 911 at any noise they guess is a gun shot. They were deploying RFT and SRT teams across campus clearing buildings. Once they had a significant presence it was clearly many reports were false as officers were in the building, on the floor, when a shots fire report came in. I can only imagine how frustrating this was for them.


I will say that the dispatcher has maintained a very professional response as she was literally buried in calls for shots fired and sightings of suspects while managing dozens of units from multiple agencies.

Hundreds of police officers on campus, looking for someone who is almost certainly long gone. All students are now scared out of their wits by the MSU Police texts. This seems like an epic overreaction.

Quantr'avi-ous didn't get paid for that last sack, and the MSU Police have called in every officer in Michigan for help.

I'll tell you what's a crime- those shoes.
