On my iPhone, all "Government Alerts" are set to "off". I don't want to hear a thing from these jackasses. They're useless. They're not for the American people and they wouldn't know how to help us if we needed them and they even wanted to help. They can bite my ass. https://www.macworld.com/artic...-october-4-2023.html On Wednesday, October 4 in the U.S., the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will test its Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) system. At 2:20 p.m. Eastern, people will receive a message on their mobile phones that reads, “THIS IS A TEST of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System. No action is needed.” In addition to the message, your iPhone will vibrate and play “a special sound that’s similar to an alarm” even if your iPhone is on silent. The alert will appear in Spanish for users who set their devices for that language. FEMA says that the test will run for 30 minutes, so if your phone is off at the start of the test but then turned on during the 30-minute window, you will get a test message. The test message should be sent only once and you can delete the message after it is received. If a person subscribes to a wireless provider that does not participate in WEA, they will not receive the test. FEMA is conducting the test to check for effectiveness. WEA is part of FEMA’s Integrated Public Alert & Warning System, which is used to send authenticated emergency messages to the public through multiple communications networks.” FEMA is also testing its Emergency Alert System (EAS), which involves radio and television broadcasts (but not streaming video services). The EAS test will last one minute. Government alerts are turned on by default. To turn off government alerts, head over to the Notifications tab in Settings and scroll down to Emergency Alerts at the bottom of the screen. From there, you can turn off Emergency Alerts or mute the sound when in Silent mode. FEMA offers an iPhone app that provides real-time weather alerts and can be used in the event of a disaster to find local emergency shelters, locate a Disaster Recovery Center, apply for individual assistance, and more.

I was sleeping after my shift on the actual watch when the ballistic missile text went out in Hawaii. I say that because FEMA has never messed anything up…hope they got some controls in place for this system. But yeah, generally I love group messages, especially those I didn’t ask to be included in and run by morons. 10 years to retirement! Just waiting!

This is interesting. Russia is doing nuke drills on October 3rd. For God and Country, Shannon

Done. "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." -- Justice Janice Rogers Brown "The United States government is the largest criminal enterprise on earth." -rduckwor

I remember years and years of emergency testing on tv and radio. On 911 I didn’t hear it used a single time. If that wasn’t an emergency what is.

Ah, yes. January, 2018. The leftist assholes in Hawaii trying to frighten everyone into believing Donald Trump was going to cause a nuclear war with North Korea. I had some fun with that. I made my own alerts. I had to figure out the font and character size and then I used the original to make my own alerts. I still have the template for this, stored on a backup drive. The original: A couple of my versions: Get it? Not a drill.

Ok Boss, that last one got me. Downloaded/stolen and gonna get used on one of our useless group texts at work. ___________________________ He looked like an accountant or a serial-killer type. Definitely one of the service industries.

It's my understanding that the big national alerts cannot be turned off, by law imposeed on the mobile carriers.

If you see me running try to keep up |
Apparently at some point I already realized the alert were useless since mine was already turned off. Yes, as I get older I often forget doing things. I guess that makes these little things more exciting, not remembering what I did and the anticipation of finding out for the first time (which is actually not the first time).......

My iPhone will not receive the message. I use an Android phone. Nice is overrated "It's every freedom-loving individual's duty to lie to the government." Airsoftguy, June 29, 2018

There's no cell service where I live. So that means that I'll get the alert the next time I go away? Alot of freaking good that'd do me in a real national emergency! ------------------------------------------------ "It's hard to imagine a more stupid or dangerous way of making decisions, than by putting those decisions in the hands of people who pay no price for being wrong." Isn't it a text message? We get Amber Alerts for missing kids from the state of PA & they usually show up when I get into an area with cell service. ------------------------------------------------ "It's hard to imagine a more stupid or dangerous way of making decisions, than by putting those decisions in the hands of people who pay no price for being wrong." I'm hoping for the following (slightly ammended) "''This is not a test. This is your emergency broadcast system announcing the commencement of the Annual Purge sanctioned by the U.S. Government. Weapons of class 4 and lower have been authorized for use during the Purge. All other weapons are restricted. Government officials have not been granted immunity from the Purge and shall be harmed. Commencing at the siren, any and all crime, including murder, will be legal for 12 continuous hours. Police, fire, and emergency medical services will be unavailable until tomorrow morning until 7 a.m., (and maybe longer in certain liberal-democrat run cities) when The Purge concludes. Blessed be our New Founding Fathers and America, a nation reborn. May God be with you all.''"

I’m curious whether turn off emergency alerts in settings will stop this. I believe there is a particular National alert that overrides all phone settings. Guess find out tomorrow.
