Really pissed that my iPhone alerted today, even though I have that shit turned off. I was talking with my guitar tech at the time, who is of like mind. And all the alert did was raise our blood pressure and get us talking about how incompetent and evil our regime is. Great PR there, FEMA.

Two things I noticed: Ringers off (I thought on both, but at least one for sure) and they still audibly "rang". Several minutes delay between when my AT&T phone went off and when my Verizon phone went off. I assumed the Verizon one went off at the same time, and that I just didn't know because it was on silent. But it also scared the crap out of me when it too rang several minutes later.

https://www.theepochtimes.com/...nFH%2FKbZgzQi7aKw%3D What Was That Alert on Our Phones? Commentary The Federal Emergency Management Agency or FEMA had told us long in advance about the alert they would send to phones on Oct. 4, 2023. Many people did not get the message. They had no idea it was coming. (Those who did shut down their phones completely.) So there was a sense of shock and amazement when at 2:18pm Eastern Time (two minutes early), FEMA blasted everyone’s phones with a loud sound and a sticker that popped up on the screen. Then it went away, and we were all left with an unsettled feeling. I seriously doubt that any person felt a sense of comfort over this, along the lines of “Thank goodness the government is caring for me.” In any case, I’ve not seen anyone say anything along those lines. Mostly there was a sense that something was very wrong that government could achieve something like this. Is my phone not my own? Short answer: no. You could have the phone on silent mode. It still came through. You could have all your notifications off. It still came through. You can have all emergency alerts turned off. It still came through. The apologists—the talking heads—said that this is no different from the tests of the Emergency Broadcast System that commonly appeared on television during the Cold War. The system was created in August 1963 to alert Americans about war or other grave national crises. It was used 20,000 times over the next 35 years, never for any real crisis but just as a way of letting everyone know that the government is there. cont...

Mine came in Spanish 5+ times. Odd that they know I live somewhere 80% Hispanic and sent in a foreign language. There would be no other reason to send it in Spanish. My name is not Spanish and my phone is Chinese. Did anyone else receive it in a foreign language? My work phone did not receive it. I thought I had work and personal phones both set to ignore alerts. We've got slightly more control over our lives than we do our phones. Way, way, waaaayyyy too much information is collected about us, our habits and locations than I'd ever want to. I'm seriously thinking about going back to an old school flip phone, no gps, no internet. ______________________________________________________________________ "When its time to shoot, shoot. I was recording a video on my phone at the time. The alert turned off my camera. I find this concerning because if people are documenting something that then government does not want recorded they can shut down the recordings. I’m just waiting until the assholes start up with the “emergency Covid messages” (or whatever fear mongering content they come up with next). “Remember to get vaccinated or a vaccinated person might get sick from a virus they got vaccinated against because you’re not vaccinated.” - author unknown

I’m always on airplane mode at home, using WiFi, so possibly that is the reason I didn’t get the tone like all of my family did who were all on cellular. This is neither here nor there, but the county I patrol has the ability to send out emergency information texts to cellular phones in the county. We call it “Reverse 911.” Once, we had an officer involved shooting where subject fled the scene in a vehicle. Our dispatch then put out the reverse 911 message with the armed and dangerous guy’s information and shelter in place advisory. Retired Texas Lawman

Chuckle. BTW – I wonder if the Amish consider current firearms to be “modern technology“? “An ex-Amish TikToker revealed that the national smartphone emergency alert got his friends from the religious community in trouble for having phones. Every US smartphone, television and radio received an alert on Wednesday at 2:18pm ET as part of a nationwide test for an emergency alert system. Unfortunately for three members of the Amish community, the alert also involved a powerful alarm sound that outed them for having modern devices - which go against their beliefs. Amish beliefs and traditions condemn modern technology and encourage plain clothing. The community is known for not using any modern devices, dressing in old-fashioned clothes, and even opting for a horse and buggy to get around. Eli Yoder, a previous member of the Amish community, posted a TikTok to share what happened when the emergency alert revealed the hidden phones of his 'Amish buddies'. …” DailyMail article: https://mol.im/a/12603615 Serious about crackers
