What did you expect to happen?

The point is that this is governmental intrusion from an agency which does little to nothing for the people it was created to serve, except stonewalling those in need and creating years of bureaucratic red tape for people who are least deserving of aggravation. FEMA is worse than useless; they take the place of an agency which, if it existed, would actually aid Americans who have suffered through disaster.

Anyway: Thought the test alert was supposed to happen at 14:20 ET? Mine fired-off at 14:18.

Couldn't hear the phone in the bedroom; I was in living room and some guys were outside cutting a tree down and running it through the woodchipper. Text received though.

They already control every aspect of our lives, does anyone think they’re going to leave our phones alone?

Remember when terrorists attacked the US with hijacked planes?
Never heard jack from the Emergency Alert System about that.

There was a loud beep over the building PA, a foreigner had his phone out and he was leaving the building. I told him it was only a test.

In an actual nation wide emergency is it wise to notify and panic the entire population?

I have my notifications turned off. I heard nothing. Everyone around had the alert. Few second difference all around.

The alert from my phone sounded no different than any other alert I’ve received in the past.

No announcement was received either. Just the tone. A big nothing.

Official clarification:

quote:
There were actually two parts to the national test, one that went out to cell phones and one that went out to radio and television systems.

The cell phone test went out at 2:18 pm EDT, which was what the Federal Communications Commission had long planned. FCC issued a memo dated Aug. 3 noting that the test would occur at 2:18 p.m. EDT, which was within the timing given by FEMA.

The television and radio test went out at 2:20 p.m. EDT, said Antwane Johnson, acting deputy assistant administrator for FEMA’s National Continuity Programs Directorate.

The two-minute wait between the two had always been planned, he said, but the slight lack of clarity was possibly "a miscommunication," he said.

I also received the FJB Alert. … although, in fairness, I was already on the FJB train.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."
