The swanky south Jersey Shore towns are extremely sensitive to Wall St. Both for rentals and for sales. I've run numbers on buying a rental property there and it isn't even close to cash-flow neutral at best. All the buyers are betting on appreciation and the next buyer being a bigger fool. They are also probably offsetting large stock market capital gains with their paper losses on the rental property.

So when the upper-middle class renters start feeling tight on money and thus don't rent at the nicer towns, the owners quickly see their losses build and the property values plummet.

I've seen that cycle numerous times at the shore towns. I believe we are seeing the early days of Wall St wealth effect evaporating. Both for regular working folks who watch their retirement portfolios and for the high dollar Wall St financial and legal types.

Canada's economy? It's been terrible for a long time except for a few elites.

Canadian Government Cancels Joint Ceremony for Gordie Howe Bridge Opening Because Trump Hurt Their Feelings

The Canadian government has cancelled their participation in a joint U.S-Canada ribbon cutting ceremony because President Trump has hurt their feelings with a new tariff announcement.

It is the official position of the Canadian government not to join in any collaborative celebration. This comes on the heels of the Premier of British Columbia, David Eby, asking his staff to revoke the Canada statement celebrating America’s 250th Independence Day. Take that Trump! {{harrumph}}

CANADA – A planned joint ceremony on Friday between the U.S. and Canada marking the opening of the Gordie Howe International Bridge has been canceled after President Trump announced a 50 percent tariff on certain Canadian imports, including alcohol and dairy.

“In light of trade action threatened by the United States earlier this week, it would be inappropriate to proceed with a celebratory event between the two countries,” Jenna Ghassabeh, a spokesperson for Canadian Infrastructure Minister Gregor Robertson, said in a statement to the Associated Press.

“We remain committed to opening the bridge on July 27th, and to celebrating this milestone among Canadians on July 24th,” she continued.

The Canadians I have spoken with all hate Trump. It’s so obvious they believe the news they are being fed and not getting the true story about how one sided the trade agreements are.

There were stories circulating here that Trump hates the Gordie Howe bridge because he isn't getting a cut of the tolls.

They are stupid TDS up here with limited exceptions. And Canada has imported so many 3rd world people that’s barely recognizable as a country descended from Europeans.

I barely recognize my home city and I’m disgusted with what they’ve allowed to happen.
