Also check the YouTube for a few tips.
My neighbor for the USB in the glove box.
He bought a splitter and put a 1 terabyte small SSD which is faster than the USB and formatted it via screen.
Then he put some music he likes and put it on a new USB and placed it on the splitter.
Longer camera recordings.

Congrats on your Tesla! I bought the 26 Model Y Juniper and it's been the best vehicle I've ever owned. It's all but eliminated my want for any sports car and its in a useful size for a daily driver. FSD is like sorcery and is a necessity for me on road trips now. I've never found driving stressful, but with 8 cameras that never get tired or distracted, it's far safer than I can ever be. I have just over 16,000 miles on it now and 75% of those miles are on FSD. It's like driving a smart phone when everyone else is still driving flip phones. Yes, its true, road trips can take longer due to charging, but I've found that even though it may take a little longer, I've got much more energy when I get to where I'm going cause I didnt burn it up trying to pay attention to everything while driving myself.

V-Tail: I spend way too much time on X. I scroll right past famous peoples' posts, but never scroll past Nobunaga. Yes, it's gotten predictable. But he loves this country; he hates Muslim and commie infiltration. And, jeez, he writes well.

A few questions for folks experienced in operating a Tesla in FSD mode:

Where do you usually have your hands? In your lap? Lightly on the steering wheel? Elsewhere?

I’ve seen statements similar to this: “I have 30K FSD miles, and had to take control only three or four times.”

What are such situations, and how are they recognized?

Yesterday I learned that my dentist has a Tesla and uses FSD. A few minutes ago I asked him the question:
“BTW, when your Tesla is in FSD do you have your hands in your lap, on the steering wheel, or elsewhere?”
His reply:
“Typically, I have them in my lap, but it asks you to touch the steering wheel periodically.

If I'm in a tight situation, I will still have them on the wheel.”

I have a 2026 Model Y. It has never nagged about touching the steering wheel. Easily, the best car I've ever been in. Here's a good feature i use a lot, after you park, say at the store, touch the climate icon and press " keep on" and the hvac will run until you get back.

I usually have them on my thighs/in my lap.

One time have I needed to intervene. Anytime you grab the wheel and turn when FSD is on, it gives you the option to hit the voice button and record why you took it out of FSD.

Thank you, Beancooker. Looking through a PDF of the model 3 owners manual I find this:

”If the cabin camera does not have clear visibility of the driver’s hand and arm locations, the touchscreen periodically displays a message reminding the driver to apply slight force to the steering wheel.

If the driver repeatedly ignores prompts to apply slight force to the steering wheel or to pay attention, Self-Driving displays a series of escalating warnings and, if those warnings are ignored, disables the rest of the drive and displays the following message:

’Self-Driving temporarily disabled. Driver attention warnings ignored’.

If the driver does not resume manual steering, Model 3 sounds a continuous chime, turns on the warning flashers, and safely pulls over.”

An amazing vehicle. The Tesla must have powerful image processors running under RTOS.

They are sick. Ridden in a few with FSD. It is amazing. IMO: neck-n-neck with the Waymo. I REALLY wish my elderly mother would trade up into one. HUGE under understated factor is how big of risk reducer FSD is for drivers not in their Prime.

Couple scenarios for me in order of likelihood:

1) ~2028 SLATE is viable, my economics are about the same, I will likely get one to save on gas and extend the life of my Tacoma until retirement (~2034 ish) No freaking way I dish out $50k+ for a new TRD Off-Road

2) Tacoma is totaled before then, current situation; I'm grabbing a CPO Type-3. I'll just rent a truck/car when I really need one for long distance/truck stuff

3) 2030 Army pension kicks in, I cannot resist and buy a model-3p

4) Hit the lottery; Cybertruck it is

5) Hit the Meg Millions find someone to graft a late 60's lead-sled Lincoln body onto a CyberBeast

Take a lap of the Ring in a Lucid Sapphire 1200+ HP EV with Misha Charoudin piloting The Stig around the track.

They hit 200+ MPH on the straight, in a 4 door EV Sedan... Lap starts at just over 3 min in, before that you get some chatter about the vehicle.

BTW Misha does hot laps all the time at Nurburgring on utoob.

If anyone is interested in FSD and considering used, make sure you're getting a model with Hardware 4.
