We have solar panels on our house and 2 EVs in the garage.

We are thinking about a 3rd EV. The Ford Fathom pickup truck.

We are looking at it for a little run around and the occasional dump run usage.

We don’t like putting garbage in our Mercedes EQS 450 or my Mach E.

The Fathom is coming out mid 27. It will be the first vehicle with Fords new UEV platform. Universal EV platform. Starting price is $28,350.

The Fathom will be a great choice for 90% of pickup owners if they are realistic about their uses. Just like the Honda Ridgeline would be a better choice than an F-150 or Tacoma for most suburban dwellers like me.

What does one do with hybrid or EV cars if it’s going to sit in the garage unused for 2-3 months (or more). Hybrid - just connect a battery tender? EV - same? Do nothing?

i would plug in the charger, the car would charge to the limit set, 80% for me, and it would go to sleep until you got back into it.

Why do you say it would sit unused for 2-3 months?

If it was the case then a battery tinder for the 12v.

When I ordered my Tesla Model 3 Premium the estimated delivery date was: “Sep 9 – Sep 30”

It’s been stubbornly stuck at that date ever since. Until today. Now it’s: “Oct – Nov”

The Fremont plant is damned big.

I have two friends who are avid tesla fans; one has had more than 6+ (not sure exactly how many) over the past 10 years.

Both enjoy their teslas but strongly advise a thorough examination at delivery. The build quality is inconsistent, ranging from various rattles to misalignment in body panels resulting in gaps that are unseemly and unbecoming a $50+ car.

Two year leases - may not matter much. But if you plan to keep the car for 10+ years, then check carefully is the advice. Tesla generally made things right, either through repairs up to replacing the car. But kind of a hassle.

I'm still considering the Y but very strongly leaning toward the Camry AWD; even one of the tesla fans suggested that was probably the right choice for me and my needs.
