FSD is incredible. It just saved me from an accident. Two lane country rode, double yellow line, pickup towing a trailer with a zero-turn mower on it. Trailer crossed the center line. FSD turned to avoid the trailer way before I could react. As they are not making them anymore, I plan to hold on to my Model S as long as I can. | |||

Speaking of China I just watched a Will Prowse video showing China's absolute dominance over the U.S. in battery manufacturing, EV charging and overall power grid production. The reason I started thinking about buying a Tesla… I had a quarterly review with my financial guy a week ago. He mentioned that one of his other clients, a billionaire, didn’t like to drive at night any longer. He could easily afford to keep a chauffeur on staff, but bought a FSD Tesla instead. That put the bee in my bonnet.  BTW – The sales guy gave me a demo ride. He opened the Tesla app on his iPhone and commanded the car to come. It drove itself to the front of the office. Pretty neat! That wasn’t on public roads, of course. Not that long ago a self driving car was science fiction. Serious about crackers. | |||

Tesla does not have traditional Dealerships. They sell direct to consumers via online and via company owned stores or galleries. The price is fixed and listed on web site. There is absolutely zero negotiation or haggling. In Texas due to some laws put in place by legacy car manufacturers Tesla cannot sell cars in a physical store. In Texas, we have Tesla showroom/galleries and delivery sites. You can go in and test drive a Tesla, but if you want to buy one they will sit you down in front of a computer in the showroom and you have to order it online. They can assist you at the computer but YOU have to order it. (At least that is how it worked with my father, he physically had to type the order in) My daughter and I ordered ours from home. There are very few options, they are all listed online and all options have a fixed price. There is no dealer add on bullshit like glass etching, wheel locks, upholstery protection, nitrogen in the tires, etc etc etc. When your car comes in, you download the Tesla app on your phone, and make an appt to pick up the car. You show up at the delivery lot, walk up to your car, unlock it with your phone and drive off. There are guys available to help you if you want or need help but generally they are just there to help you get the app loaded if you have not already done that, or to assist you if you find an issue with the car like a dent or scratch. | |||

That is interesting. Here in Texas I have a friend who ordered a Cyber Truck well over a month ago and looks like he will have to wait at least two to four more weeks for delivery. And they are made 200 miles south of here. | |||

That’s a pretty good description of the Tesla purchase process. I hope Prefontaine reads it – she seems confused. Re: “There is absolutely zero negotiation or haggling.” Well, I did negotiate three months of free FSD, rather than one (the default).  Considering Tesla’s great manufacturing technology, I can’t understand why the delivery window of my Model 3 is so wide. It ought to be less than a week. See the screenshot, captured from the Tesla app on my iPhone, of the car I ordered. It shows September 9 – September 30 delivery. Geez. The 19” wheels and “Quicksilver” paint were pricey options. The paint upgrade included several other nice features though. The standard 18”wheels were black and didn’t look right with the silver paint. If FSD isn’t enough, the spaceship-like control system is another marvel.  Serious about crackers. | |||

When we were looking at Tesla, the buying experience was head and shoulders above traditional car purchasing process. No pushy sales people on commission, no F&I meeting with every aftermarket product up for sale, no marked up stickers with extras added to the bottom line such as "paint protection", "tire protection, aftermarket theft tracking monitors. You schedule the drive, show up, say hello and check in, or, check in on the app and away you go, nobody in the car with you distracting you from the experience driving it. Then either press a button to pay or finance and drive it home. I'd get a Cybertruck just because its so ugly it's cool. Maybe have it wrapped, start a utoob channel and do stupid stuff with it! | |||

In the related thread I talked about ordering a new Model Y L Premium launch series. $10 grand more than a Y premium AWD—BUT: 1 year FSD; no charge for paint color or interior color; 1 year FREE Supercharger. Taking those into account, difference is < $5 grand. Extra room, useable 3 red row, better 2d row seats. And it looks way better, Y always looks too short. Wife was amazed at FSD, even from passenger seat. Love the way they make the demo drive without salesman. Lowest key sales experience for ac car v ever. Ever. SJ, I just downloaded a PDF of the owner’s manual for the Tesla I ordered to my MacBook. You might consider doing that for yours. It’s much better organized than the owner’s manual for my 2025 Genesis G70. It’s going to be my afternoon reading for quite a while. I hope September comes early this year. I agree, the regular Model Y looks stubby As it happened, I went out to an appointment after you posted and saw what I believed to be a Model Y L on the road in Elk Grove...I've only seen pictures It was a longer Tesla with additional detailing at the camera housings.
