That’s the real answer to the immigration problem. Make illegals unhireable. Don’t just stop at civil fines, but start locking up the people that hire them. It think they are only at the tip of the iceberg here. Companies hiring illegals that they can pay lower wages to and not have to pay taxes or benefits is MASSIVE in many industries. Two I can think of right off the top of my head are the restaurant and construction industries. Just wait until they find just how many illegals are employed by them, it's going to be mind boggling. | |||

Thing is, the laws are there and have not been being enforced. Ever heard of form I9? Employers and employees have been faking or accepting fake documentation for years. I’m with you and am well aware of the laws already on the books. However any law that’s not enforced may as well not be on the books. My take on making illegals unhireable is specifically that we aggressively enforce the laws on the books, the civil penalties and criminal ones. When I was doing large scale landscaping many of the workers we hired lacked documentation. But it wasn't to pay less, it was to hire those who were happy to have a job and have the opportunity to work for a living. Our experience with US-born employees was that they would do almost anything to avoid work up to and including intentionally breaking tools so as to have an excuse for not having to use them, and not showing up for work without notice. It was industrious vs. lazy, not lower wages that motivated our hiring practices. | |||

Yeah, we had our whole roof replaced last fall. There we probably 6-8 workers up there and all but one were Hispanic. They were skilled and worked non-stop. We need workers like that and I would gladly welcome them into our society. They just need to go back and go thru the system..legally. .....never marry a woman who is mean to your waitress. | |||
