My wife teaches at a public school and she (and her coworkers) are all very worried what this will mean. There is very little confidence in the state to step up and make things better. I'm not familiar enough with the issue to feel anything other than caution.

Not much hope out here. I believe we are in 49th place in education at the moment. I'm HOPING this will be used as an opportunity.

Does she realize the DOE was created by Jimmy Carter in 1980 and has only made things worse?

When that money furnace is gone, she may see more money at the local level.

I am sorry to hear that your state education authorities are incompetent.

However, an additional layer of Federal incompetence certainly doesn't improve the situation.

It's like putting shit icing on a shit cake.

God Bless and Protect our Beloved President, Donald John Trump.

he Department of Education is what moved our education priorities to be indoctrination. Good riddance.

I wonder how our world ranking of best educated students has changed from inception of the agency to now and same for our spending per student.

All of us alive today, bear the burden of where this Republic finds itself.

Similar to "The Flight of the Phoenix" and every similar metaphor, we are in the shit.

How we respond and the individual's effort to either work to survive, or or work to destroy, the story is set.

I know where "my character" plays the part.

Live or die.

That's the heart of any discussion about the DOE. It hasn't always been, it wasn't necessary for 200 years and education results have been measurably worse since it's inception. Education WILL be better with no federal DOE.

^^^^ Theoretically saving taxpayers dollars while more money to the state w/o the feds skimming off the top. I'd hope, more responsive to the people of that state too.

On October 17, 1979, US President Jimmy Carter signed legislation establishing the US Department of Education.
But close enough. Reagan wanted to get rid of it but… getting rid of bureaucracy is hard.

‘No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we’ll ever see on this earth!’ – Ronald Reagan

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."
-- Justice Janice Rogers Brown

"The United States government is the largest criminal enterprise on earth."

He "wanted to", he called for its elimination, but did he actually do anything? Trump is the only President who is actually doing something about it, hard or not. Already, USAID is gone, despite legal challenges from the leftists.

One benefit of the speech being so long. It ended late so most people (those who had jobs anyway) turned the tube off the moment it ended. So they didn't hear the media spin or the response. I've heard the response was all copium and cringe. But I'm not going to look it up and watch it.

I told my wife he was strategically late and ran long to minimize reaction that night. He wanted everyone to go to bed with his thoughts in their heads, not some loony leftys reaction.
