My pulls showed up today. Out of a package of 250 it contained the following:

258 actual bullets
12 either with damaged tips or brown tips
12 that were 120gr boat tail black tips

Most had very minor pull marks (on bases) that wont hurt anything. A couple had some sealant on the bases. Overall pleased. Now its off the the load cellar to crank a few out for testing.

Update: Loaded a test run. Ready to go.

Got to do some load testing on the .300blk today. Had to improvise as I forgot my usual targets at home.

Below are the "mystery 110gr Barnes-like black tip pulls". I started having some flat primers at 19.7gr of H110 so stopped there. The 110s dont exactly have the reputation for tack drivers, but looks like some more work around 19.4gr. I might inch up to 19.7 again to verify the pressure signs. At 19.4gr, I was getting 2064fps out of my 8" barrel.

I was really surprised on the performance of the 165gr soft points. The target is a bit irratic (dont ask) but its well marked. The reason I only loaded 3ea of the longer COAL was to see if there were significant pressure signs as I went from 2.20" down to 2.08". No pressure signs. in addition, they fed flawlessly. Woot! I was only getting a tad over 1500fps out of them, but the loading I was using was the starting charge.

how to do a screen shot

I also tested some loads using 1680 and 175smk's. They did well, but not worth the price for the same performance as the 165s. Also ran some loads using the Nosler 110gr Varmageddon. That was a disaster. Would not feed. I might pull the remainder of those and reseat them longer as I feed the longer COAL 110gr V-max fine.

A productive afternoon.

Thanks for the update entropy! What did you mean by the "mystery 110gr Barnes-like black tip pulls"? Have you heard they may not be Barnes?

I still haven't gotten mine yet Frown I think we ordered the same day, so I'm not sure what the hang-up is. My order says it's supposed to be here by tomorrow, but it still doesn't show "shipped" on the Fedex website. I'll wait and see what happens tomorrow.

What 165's did you get? Are you just using them for plinking?

Just cracking a joke on the pulls. What else would they be?... Lots of folks seem to be wondering about the obvious.

The 165s are Remington CorLokts I had been instant karma'd from another member here.

Continuing with the .300aac.

Prepped, primed and loaded two final test runs using Barnes 110gr TSX/H110, and 165gr SP/A1680.

Hopefully with the Barnes I can maximize the velocity with reasonable accuracy within pressure. With these, I need at least 1300-1400fps for expansion as far out as I can get. The 165s goal is a moderate practice/general purpose load that can be run thru my progressive.

Picked up a Geissele trigger for the .300 pistol as well. Im hoping that will help shrink the groups a bit as well. Results next week.

I'm still working on my 9mm stash and trying to get to 3000 147gr and 500 more 165gr. I haven't had much time lately for reloading, but I'm up to almost 2000.

I finally got my order. Did you weigh each bullet or is it easy to see that they are different?

110s are flat base, so if they have a boat tail, they are wrong.

I loaded 80 rounds of 6.5x47 today for a match next weekend. SWMBO is loading 100 dasher for her rifle now.

Separated a half full 5 gallon pail of brass that I picked up at a Steel Challenge match yesterday.

If I would have had time I could have filled that bucket but there just wasn't enough time or daylight available.

Range tested 9mm reloads today. Failure.

Background: These few rounds (60) were my first attempt at 9mm. I have a varity of 357 SIG bullets, so why not buy a 9mm Shield and reload? Any excuse to buy a new pistol, right? The issue was the TRUNCATED 357 bullet jammed into the rifling. The round was seated deep, but not deep enough for a truncated bullet. I had skipped the test where a dummy round is dropped into the barrel. Fixed that tonight. My action polish of the Shield was sweet and smooth, though.

FINALLY bought a press! Ordered a Dillon XL650, 9mm dies, 750 vibratory cleaner and matching separator and some other small items. I ordered from KrakenPop on the recommendation of Brian Enos, and Larry is very responsive. I'll still need a scale, calipers and a manual. I plan to order some Inline Fabrication items like their mount, ergo handle and led lights.

A case feeder will come after some 9mm components.

Bought 3K of CCI 41 primers, some Varget and Titegroup, 100 brand new 357 MAG brass, and lucked into a bag of once fired 357 SIG brass.

I'll be in the car tomorrow making the rounds with some more of my shopping list.

Not sure if you've built your bench or not, but go a bit higher than you think you'd need. I can run downstairs and measure mine quick if you want, but I don't know how tall you are so I'm not sure if it would help you.

The key is that when you pull the press handle down, you don't want to be hunched over. This will also depend on if you load standing or sitting, of course.

But trust me - I used to use an old kitchen table for a bench with my 550. Even with a strong mount, it was too tall to load sitting, and just short enough that when standing I would constantly be hunching over to get the handle to the bottom. Now with a taller bench, I don't bend my back with every pull of the handle. Makes it much more comfortable.

With the 650, though, the other thing to consider is how high your ceiling is. You still need to be able to reach up and dump brass in the casefeeder.

Fired up the 650 this morning to reload subsonic blackout. I was out, and this seems like a great time to do it. I plan to load all the prepped brass I have for that caliber (probably about 1k), then switch to 223 and do the same (probably 2500), then load a 30cal can full of 9mm. Should take me until Monday night maybe.
