I finished it last night. I was entertained, but it was pretty corny at times.

Jack Ryan in the books was much more than an injured marine turned analyst. Hell, he became the President.

That is true, but he wasn't a door kicker. He had Ding and Clark for that. When he was doing action in the earlier novels Hunt For Red October, Clear and Present Danger, and Patriot Games he was very much out of his element or got in the situation accidentally (Patriot Games) or because of his morals (Clear and Present Danger). Remember, he learned/relearned pistol shooting in Patriot Games.

As pointed out in some earlier posts, these series would be more fitting as Jack Ryan Jr., series rather than Jack Ryan Sr.

Mistake Not...

So I've watched all for seasons and while I know there are MANY significant plot points so big it would allow a retrofitted Typhoon class submarine made even bigger with six more missile tubes and a malfunctioning catapiller drive to steam through at 30+ knots, it was entertaining and better than a lot of other television out there, IMO.

I could, and have to others, bitched all day about it's plot issues, but at the end of the day I was asked, as Maximus once asked in Gladiator , are you entertained? And I was.

Don't go expecting realism.

I would agree. The character is a lot like .jr in the books. But Clancys Widow can shape and reform him at will, and she is doing it with a gusto. I enjoyed the show, and liked the characters. But Greer, Clark, Chavez et al live in my head as the original characters in the books.

I hear that they are in development to break off Chavez as a spinoff.

The Venezuelan plot and the final season were pointless and stupid silly IMO.

"That's the top bad guy in the end." Roll Eyes

That's what I said when they made their first appearance on screen. Hollywood writers are so cliche, so predictable. Bleh.

ETA: Watching now, episode 4. I said "And this is when he dies.." and not 20 seconds later. Roll Eyes

I still need to finish S3 of JR.

Finished Season 4 to the end, but I struggled to get through it. Each season got progressively worse, IMO.

If you can keep the books and the TV series separate in your head, I found all five seasons to be well done and enjoyable. Season 5 had some The Sandbaggers vibes in it, which I wish more shows did. (And if you like your Jack Ryan without the action hero bits and have not seen The Sandbaggers, you might enjoy that show quite a bit. Would love a remake.)
