Based solely on the trailers...there seems to be a lack of dry dead-pan humor. What made Leslie Neilson's character so great, was all the roles he had up until Airplane! and Naked Gun were serious roles, generally heavies or, authoritative types, he could be asking an absurd question with suggestive phrasing or farting and the audience is cracking up while he's keeping a straight face. In fact you had a significant number of serious actors like Peter Graves, Robert Stack, Lloyd Bridges along with Nieson doing comedy for the first time ever, and that's what drove the absurdity of the farce.
Neeson as he's gotten older has done a fair share of comedic roles now, his tough guy persona was shattered a decade ago with A Million Ways to Die and Love Actually. They'd have been better off pulling in people like Daniel Day Lewis, Anthony Hopkins, Denzel Washington, Al Pacino or, Tommy Lee Jones to do the cameo bit that helps drive such projects.

I disagree. I found it neither brilliant nor horrific. It's funny but not totally hilarious. It does have its hilarious moments. The writing for some gags are about two notches better than one might expect. I'd say I did find it funnier than Naked Gun 33 1/3.

No, the humor is pretty dry. In fact, compared to the zany energy that a Zucker Abrahams Zucker production typically emanates, this one has a slightly more dark and restrained tone. That's not a slam—it's just something I noticed.

Yeah, I get it. I never found either the original or Leslie Nielsen funny (well, except for Airplane). But then I find most "comedies" to be pretty stupid.

Yeah, but the truth is, I don’t think I ever watched the Leslie Neilson movie either; just don’t much care for comedies like this. I usually make a point of avoiding Liam Neeson movies anyway, but we decided to give it a try. Didn’t cost us much time.

Started watching it last night. Absolute piece of doggy barf. Made it a whole 5 minutes. Who thinks this is a good idea?

I am glad I am easily entertained. I liked it, had some good laugh out loud scenes for me. It is a Naked Gun movie, it is gonna be dumb.
