My remarks about this film can be found in the Lair. I've commented on it several times. To me, it's not Film Noir. It's the tail end of Warner Brothers pre-war crime film cycle. If anything, The Maltese Falcon is proto-noir, but what it is to me is a Humphrey Bogart film. Call it a personal quirk. but it's like Cagney's White Heat. It's not Film Noir. It's a Cagney film. Dig? You could fill a stadium with the film buffs who disagree with me on this. I enjoyed the movie. Ever since we got a DVR, I have been trying to watch at least one old movie a month to see "what all the fuss was about" Brando, Bogart, etc. TCM has the little pre-movie thing where they talk about the stars or the director and such. I don't care what it's classified as, it's just a great movie for me. Of course, I'm a big Bogart fan... I've got almost every Bogie film ever made in my collection. I have my own style of humor. I call it Snarkasm. | |||
