SBrooksMaltese Falcon style/type
Watching it right now, and couldn't remember if it is noir or some other style I've heard you film buffs discuss. I've never seen it before...

Film noir, no doubt about it.

parabellumMy remarks about this film can be found in the Lair. I've commented on it several times. To me, it's not Film Noir. It's the tail end of Warner Brothers pre-war crime film cycle. If anything,
The Maltese Falcon is proto-noir, but what it is to me is a Humphrey Bogart film.
Call it a personal quirk. but it's like Cagney's
White Heat. It's not Film Noir. It's a Cagney film. Dig?
You could fill a stadium with the film buffs who disagree with me on this. Nevertheless...

SBrooksI enjoyed the movie.
Ever since we got a DVR, I have been trying to watch at least one old movie a month to see "what all the fuss was about" Brando, Bogart, etc.
TCM has the little pre-movie thing where they talk about the stars or the director and such. Pretty cool.

zoom6zoomI don't care what it's classified as, it's just a great movie for me.
Of course, I'm a big Bogart fan... I've got almost every Bogie film ever made in my collection.
