The sound setup could be a bit better, but it's good to see youth involved in Bluegrass, keeping it alive... https://x.com/DudespostingWs/s.../2079734672528121869

This is a cool video for me as my cousins Little Roy Lewis and Lizzy Long play at the Opry with Rhonda Vincent. There ain't much difference in the man I want to be and the man that I really am.

Bluegrass has been in a near-constant tension of tradition and novelty, for many many years. The commercial rejection of "new grass" and the near-worship of Mr. Monroe and Mssrs Flatt & Scruggs create a monotonous repetition of tunes that over time, leave us wanting more. I listen to Billy Strings, who truly studies the past, who truly values the past, but who goes far beyond. I wish him well. New Grass Revival, Bela Fleck, and many others who remain creative and not conditioned to play only the standards can be heard on SiriusXM Bluegrass Junction. I enjoy listening to those. Some bands, who recast rock anthems, make me realize how wonderful those songs are. The acoustic versions are stellar. And, I still feel a sense of joy when Duelin' Banjos comes on, or Uncle Pen, or one of the many "I killed my girlfriend and now I'm gonna die" songs. There is nothing like a traditional song. ------- Trying to simplify my life...

Mushroom Hunter is on the face of it about the lonely life of searching for mushrooms in the Korean mountainside, which one of the band members said was like being the only bluegrass band in Korea. I saw them live at Eddies Attic, which described as an intimate venue would be generous. Very legit. The Opry thinks so, as well. Her voice is all that and more. Search YouTube for their cover of Golden, which a bit overplayed is still a pretty hard song vocally. -- I always prefer reality when I can figure out what it is.
