We plan to see it too, hope it stays in IMAX for a bit.

Seen mixed reviews, as expected. However I think a serious fan dismissing this sort of movie for the somewhat inaccurate or unrealistic details of the cars/racing/etc. is like folks making the same criticism in any movie that includes a gun.

It's a story for entertainment, not a documentary.

Saw this article today. Some of those numbers are pretty eye-popping.

F1 driver net worth 2025

Wife and I are going to see the F1 movie. We will have to fight the tourist crowd down in Destin to see it on the big screen. I don't think our local theater would do the film justice.
I'm expecting to see a completely dumb and unrealistic fantasy film that sends me home saying: "The was awesome!"

I actually thought these guys would be worth more. F1 has to be one of the highest revenue generating sports in the world. It makes American sports look poor.

Finally found an IMAX trailer. One of these years they might actually post one higher than 1080p.

If we didn't have 5 kids in tow while we're in town, I'd consider it. Might have to wait til we're back in Houston.

None of them are owners in Liberty or the teams, so the overall sport revenue doesn't flow directly to them. Of course it does in side deals, salaries, etc.

Just like the real world, the large to huge salaries probably get easily consumed living. Some exceptions of course, for the Maxosphere comp levels.

Looks like the ones who have significant assets are ones who've made savvy business decisions in addition to driving.

I wouldn't rely too much on those net worth numbers. The sources for that information are mostly wild guesses by a journalist.
Some of the drivers have recently made it to F1 and haven't yet reached a higher earning power.
Several come from affluent parents, Like Lance Stroll who's "earnings" and employment come from his fathers ownership of the team and other outside interests.
Many have some of their income from sources that don't have to disclose that information to the public or media.

Well, so much for hope at the FIA:

https://racer.com/2025/06/25/c...t-fia-presidency-run

quote:
Carlos Sainz decides against FIA presidency run

Carlos Sainz Sr. has announced he will not be running for FIA president in this year’s election, as “the present circumstances are not ideal to set the grounds for my candidacy”.

The two-time world rally champion spoke of his interest in challenging Mohammed Ben Sulayem last month, with the election set to take place on December. He addressed conflict of interest concerns relating to his son – Williams driver Carlos Sainz – but not long after making his intent public, changes were made to the FIA statutes that brought forward a deadline for presidential teams to be announced, and also added a further stipulation for candidates.

The BBC was first to report a statute change that states there “must not be anything in the record of the candidates standing for the election as members of the presidential list that calls into question their professional integrity".

The proposals were confirmed two weeks ago by way of a vote at the FIA General Assembly, and while Sainz Sr. also references his own rally career as central to his decision, he says he still feels changes are needed at the FIA.

“I have worked hard these past months to understand in depth the situation at the FIA and the demands and complexities that come with such an important project,” Sainz Sr said in a statement.

“After a thoughtful reflection, I have come to the conclusion that the present circumstances are not ideal to set the grounds for my candidacy.

"Furthermore, I have realized that properly running for president would notably compromise my preparation for the Dakar and I do not wish to weaken my commitment to Ford and my team. These concerns have therefore inclined me to be realistic and desist from my FIA endeavour for now.

“Despite stepping down from this race, my passion for serving and leading within the motorsport world hasn't changed and I still believe the organisation needs important changes, which I remain genuinely hopeful will be tackled in the upcoming years.

"Both racing and mobility have been my life and I will closely follow future developments with great interest. I will always support my sport and try to contribute in all meaningful ways to improve mobility for road users around the world.

"Finally, I want to sincerely thank you all for the messages of support, encouragement and advice I have received during the past weeks. They have reinforced my confidence to continue striving towards my present and future goals."

Sainz Sr’s decision means Ben Sulayem is currently set to run unopposed in December’s election.

That stitch-up doesn't reflect well on FIA.

Wife and I are enjoying the F1 Academy show on Netflix. I'm sure you guys all know about F1 Academy. Just in case, Susie Wolf runs the Academy that is all women drivers and they compete in cars sponsored by the F1 teams. They race on the same tracks as F1. It's a decent watch during the week if you are Jonesing for some F1.

I saw the F1 movie on IMAX and I loved it. If you get a chance to go, make sure you see it on an IMAX screen because it's incredibly beautiful.

The movie also stays mostly realistic, but you do have to ignore that there's a 99% chance an early 50's Sonny Hayes (Brad Pitt) would never have a super license. Past that, it passes the smell test and a lot of the things done on track. Think Kevin Magnussen from last year. He's also not a god tier driver that saves the team on track as most of his impact is made with making the team better.

There's some niggles that they could have done a better job with, but it's nothing that will take you out of the film.

Four out of five. Well worth seeing, but I'll have to wait for disc so I can pause to see how bad Apex GP really was at Silverstone compared to the 2023 F1 cars.

Glad to read a positive review.
The Race's summary didn't have me too optimistic.

Not sure what my closest imax is, might have to settle for Dolby Atmos instead.

Yeah, everything that happened in the movie has happened in real life. However, Sonny is brought in as a replacement driver with 9 races left in the season. If he had to do an entire season, he'd work up enough penalty points in real life that he'd be suspended before the end of the year.

Saw the F1 movie. I got exactly what I expected a dumb feel good movie. IMAX was perfect for the movie. Lots of F1 shirts in the crowd.

No doubt F1 management put a lot into allowing them access and has big hopes this will interest a lot of people that aren't already fans.
