I swear I had something for this |
That was a race saved by a safety car. Alonso is finally on the board with 2 points thanks to Verstappen acting like Baby Schumacher ramming into George Russell because his fe-fee's were hurt. I would have given him a grid penalty for next race, but I guess there's room for further punishment since that was very intentional.

Two quick thoughts at this point. I think Max got off light, considering. Maybe this gives Stroll Jr. a graceful way to bow out and a chance for someone else. ___________________________ Avoid buying ChiCom/CCP products whenever possible.

My thoughts exactly. I wonder why Aston Martin didn’t put in their reserve driver? Or do they even have one?? ------------------ Eddie Our Founding Fathers were men who understood that the right thing is not necessarily the written thing. -kkina

My comment on the last page had the answer. If Stroll withdrew before qualifying, then Aston Martin could put either test driver (Felipe Drugovitch or Jak Crawford) into the 2nd Aston and qualify. Since Stroll quit after qualifying, per the rules no one else could go in the car because no one else was in it over the weekend. I could be wrong on this part, but if Stroll had sat out FP1, then that driver might have been able to replace Stroll after qualifying.

I haven't watched Peter Windsor for many years but ran across his analysis of the Spanish GP, specifically Max and the tire situation of the teams. He's (PW) got a lot of inside info not available to us regular folks and has a somewhat different take, agree or not on his conclusions. More specifically the tire condition, not just compound, of each set fitted during different parts of the race. Turns out many teams had used up to some degree, all of their tires before the race. He also addresses several issues around Red Bull's strategy and the call to let Russel back by near the end. That still doesn't change the issue of what Max may have done, just shines a different light on why he appeared to go postal for a few seconds. Worth a watch in my opinion. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aP4xtk7M2yc ___________________________ Avoid buying ChiCom/CCP products whenever possible.

I believe you are correct. That same happened with Williams/Bottas, I think in Austria. Back injury from a divot coming out of the last turn. Susie Wolf would have deputized, but hadn't driven the car that weekend. The Enemy's gate is down.

About as good a drive as I've seen from Max, not a race winning car but he was in touch with the Macs almost all day (10th place finish notwithstanding). It was a perfect storm for him after the Antonelli incident, slapped around by the wrong tires, Leclerc's uncharacteristic aggression, poorly timed pit communication telling him stuff they probably didn't need to say. And yeah, even his hip check of George was masterful, he was pissed, they both went on to finish, point made. Hindsight but yeah, he shouldn't have come in at all, finishing on used softs like everyone else. What a mess. Great fun for us the home viewers. ![]() Set the controls for the heart of the Sun.

The save at the SC restart was pretty masterful, that was way out of line as he got on the power. The Enemy's gate is down.

Thanks for the link. I think Peter had a very insightful analysis of the race and what caused Red Bull to basically implode. The departure of Jonathan Wheatley as RB’s sporting director to Sauber has apparently left RB without the tactical real time analysis that they were known for. It is further exemplified by Nico Hulkenberg getting 5th, an amazing improvement in the soon to be Audi team. ------------------ Eddie Our Founding Fathers were men who understood that the right thing is not necessarily the written thing. -kkina

I was plenty proud of Leclerc and his quick response when he saw Max was in a jam. He was a happy camper with another podium finish.

So AM are less than candid about Lance missing the last race. Apparently he was dissatisfied with quali and got wee wee'd up, cursing folks out and breaking his hand. AM are denying it but many sources contradict the official story. Stroll misses Spanish GP with injury after losing temper Set the controls for the heart of the Sun.

Looks like it's a possibility for him to miss his home GP as well https://www.the-race.com/formu...fter-paddock-gossip/ Both AM reserves [Drugovich & Vandoorne] are on LeMans duty, so a possibility to see Bottas on track, if Stoll is still unfit to drive. Article says F1 takes priority & they could pull one of the reserves from LeMans. But with VB in the wings & available, why pull them? The Enemy's gate is down.

I suspect that Stroll was not happy that he's something like 0 for 20 something in qualifying against Alonso. He broke some bones in his hand/wrist a coupe of years ago in a bicycle accident. The excuse now is that that old injury has been bothering him. More likely, he got out of the car, had a temper tantrum and banged some solid objects around in the garage and maybe re-injured himself. He's really been getting in the way on track recently and it would be nice to get someone else with potential in that car, whatever the excuse may be. ___________________________ Avoid buying ChiCom/CCP products whenever possible.

Or was banging on the wheel on cool down in the throes of a tantrum. Either way, getting someone else in that seat will answer some questions. Tough ones for Lawrence, perhaps. You only have integrity once. - imprezaguy02

Whether Drugovich, Vandoorne or Bottas. Get one of them in the car, Canada is a known quantity circuit, so it would be fairly obvious if they're outperforming Stroll and/or competitive with Alonso, and that would be a telling result. The Enemy's gate is down.
