Interesting race.
Lewis wanted to quit after lap 1. Then he put his head down and quietly ended up very near the front somehow.

Carlos? The other car could/should have won easily but he's been making a lot of mistakes and not racing all that well. The wall was just farther back this race. Before he needs to worry about being a #2 and not allowed to race his teammate, he needs to perform well enough to be a #2 at a team like Ferrari.

Russell just keeps his head down and lets the driving do the talking. Did a great job in wheel to wheel racing and no mistakes. Stays far enough away from Lewis that no dustup's have happened yet. Can see him winning races this year.

The other teams seem to lack any consistency. Up one week and looking like they're headed in the right direction, backwards the next race.

Red Bull looking pretty strong at this point.

Carlos Spinz should be his new name.

Russell was impressive.

That was a gut lunch for LeClerc - far enough out in front that got what amounted to a free pit stop and was on his way to a great win when the power unit failed on him.

Need to watch it again and see what all the fuss was about turn 4.

But at least Hammy was held off the podium. Wanting to quit after lap one and then getting two or three fastest laps.

Max's off was blamed on a wind gust, didn't hear an explanation on Sainz.
MB look to be getting some extra performance from the car & didn't notice any porpoising from anyone today.

3 Ferrari PU failures this weekend.
Leclerc had a noticeable zing in the replay, Zhou less so.

Red Bull needs to repay Checo …
Or declare him the number two.

Yeah, it's really early in the seasons to be calling team orders.
Max did have the pace to drop him once he was ahead, but Checo might've been able to argue making Max pass him on merit.

Downside of being the 2nd driver at the top teams, you're going to take 2nd priority when you're running with your teammate.

The only one who doesn’t know Perez is the number 2 driver is Perez. Max has been the clear favorite ever since he moved up to Red Bull. Riccardio left because he didn’t want to be the number 2 driver. Honestly, what’s Perez going to do? He doesn’t have a contract for next year.

You can bet Sainz is going to get the same treatment at Ferrari if the situation arises. The only reason it hasn’t yet is because Sainz is already driving like a number 2 on his own.

I really felt bad for LeClerc, as he had it in the bag......until he didn't!!! Same has happened to Max. This is a new year with everything new, and some flaws are showing up.

The Mercs were dealing with heat [brakes?] issues, cost LH a place at the finish, having to lift & coast.

Engine cooling, I think. LH had a water leak at the end, which is why they had back him off a lot. Not sure Russell’s exact issue, but when he was fighting off Max, he said he was getting “cool the car” warnings, which the team said were valid alarms. I think that’s also talking about engine, not brakes.

Monaco parade this weekend.

Watching FP1 now, looks like the loss of damping from the 13" tire sidewalls has them struggling a bit.

https://www.espn.com/f1/story/...legally-carrying-gun

quote:

Former Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone was arrested in Brazil late on Wednesday for illegally carrying a gun while boarding a private plane to Switzerland, local police said on Thursday.

The Brazilian police found an undocumented LW Seecamp .32 gun in Ecclestone's luggage during an X-ray screening, police said in a statement, adding that the 91-year-old was then arrested and taken to a facility at Viracopos airport in Campinas.

Ecclestone acknowledged owning the gun, but said he was unaware it was in his luggage at the time, police said. The Briton paid bail and was freed to travel to Switzerland.

Asked about Ecclestone's arrest, the Sao Paulo state public security office confirmed in a statement to Reuters that a businessman was arrested for possession of a firearm at Campinas' airport, but did not name him directly.

The office said the "small, silver colored pistol" was out of ammunition and that the arrestee had to pay 6,060 reais ($1,257.55) as bail. The handgun was seized, it added.

Ecclestone was not immediately available for comment.

He is married to Brazilian-born Fabiana Ecclestone, an FIA vice-president and member of the World Motor Sport Council.

They attended several events in the South American country in May, including a local Stock Car race in the countryside near Sao Paulo and a meeting with triple world champion Nelson Piquet in Brasilia.

The Ecclestones own a coffee plantation near Sao Paulo, which they bought in 2012 and where they regularly spend time when not in Europe. Piquet drove for Brabham when it was owned by Ecclestone in the 1970s and 80s.

For decades Ecclestone was Mr Formula One, the man who did the deals, turned the wheels and transformed the sport into today's billion dollar business.

He was moved aside in 2017 when U.S.-based Liberty Media took control of the commercial rights.

That is the deal for seconds at the big teams. You will yield to the main guy unless he is incapable.

Nice little gun, though.

Bernie was the victim of a robbery and beaten several years ago.
Don't blame him for having a little protection.

The other half of that Zac Brown quote is: “and McLaren has not met Daniels expectations.“

Every single person I know that’s been to Brazil has had a gun shoved in their face. (Except for one very unassuming Japanese guy who was my former employee/friend.)
