THIS IS AN OLD THREAD

Not that I'm a movie connoisseur and don't see a lot of movies when released, but not sure how I missed this. Glad I discovered it on Netflix.

Watched it this afternoon, and as others have already commented, the scenery is stunning. I found the small details present in every scene as well. While others have commented about it being slow, I found the building of relationships among the characters well done and that the plot moved along at an enjoyable pace. For those preferring lots of nonstop action this movie isn't it.

Having more recently gotten into "Old West" firearms I enjoyed how they were showcased in the film and seemed to be used accurately.

I read comments about there being overt or covert messages about historical "guilt" or whatever. I never felt any of that during the movie and I don't think that message is purposely presented in the film. I suppose if you're looking for it then it's there, but I certainly didn't feel it was a conscious theme or message.

As it's a film from 7+ years ago I'm not sure how long it will be around on Netflix or like services, I ordered the Blu-Ray disc so I can watch it again. I agree with those that think it is one of the best Westerns made.

Responding to this as I enjoyed reading everyone's comments, and thought there might be others who, like me, missed it the first time around.

If it has Christian Bale, I'll probably see it at some point. He rarely disappoints.

I watched it thanks to mojojojo's post. Loved the movie. Christian Bale was great, as usual. Even my wife loved it.

Here's to the sunny slopes of long ago.

The ending makes me forget I've watched a so so movie. A lot of stuff kinda works, kinda doesn't.
