I'm not familiar with the video game, so this is all new to me. I've watched the first two episodes and so far it looks promising as long as I can mute out that nauseating 30's and 40's background music. _____________________________ "The problems we face today exist because the people who work for a living are outnumbered by those who vote for a living." The iconic music is absultely entwined with the gaming experience and is necessary for fan service. But I can see why it might get tiresome for sure.

The music is so part of the experience in both the games and the show. I find myself humming "I don't want to set the world on fire..." more often than I should. Take Care, Shoot Safe, Chris

Fighting the good fight![]() |
Yep. The alternate universe of the Fallout setting, from just prior to the nuclear apocalypse, is envisioned as an Early Cold War aesthetic despite the sci-fi trappings. "Retrofuturistic" is the term. It's 2077, and technology has advanced to include futuristic things like laser weapons, sentient robots, and genetic engineering. However, the fashion, music, architecture, pop culture, and social norms are stuck in the 1950s. Picture Leave It To Beaver, just with robots and household fission reactors sprinkled in. And then the apocalypse hits... And even a lot of the futuristic technology is through the lens of 1950s-era sci-fi. Think Flash Gordon, Forbidden Planet, et al. Ray guns, bulky/boxy robots, vehicles powered by nuclear reactors, supercomputers that run on vacuum tubes, etc. In that light, the 1950s crooning music is setting-appropriate. And as mentioned, it has been featured heavily in the Fallout game series since the beginning, so leaving it out in favor of more modern music would be a huge disservice to the fans.

I have not played 1 or 2, missed the boat on those. Played an absurd amount of 3, NV, and 4. NV, 3, 4 would be how I rank them. I skipped 76 and also was not excited when I heard Amazon was making a series about it. I watched this video about how much better 76 has gotten since it's release in 2018. Sounds like it's on sale for $8.00 on steam right now until the 19th. Is anyone here playing it, what are your thoughts? I am going to check out the series out too. Is Fallout 3 still playable? I see an updated version for the current Xbox. I played Fallout 4 extremely briefly - barely enough to know what it was about. Xbox has a sale going right now for trivial prices. I’m afraid both will be too much of a grind though.

OLD THREAD ALERT Fallout season 2 has just dropped on Amazon Prime today. So far just as good as last season. Looks like only one episode a week. "But, as luck would have it, he stood up. He caught that chunk of lead." Gunnery Sergeant Carlos Hathcock "If there's one thing this last week has taught me, it's better to have a gun and not need it than to need a gun and not have it." Just watched the first episode of Season 1. Not generally my cuppa tea, but interesting enough that I'll watch a few more and see how it goes. Be careful when following the masses. Sometimes the M is silent.

I’ve played Fallout 1 thru 4, as well as Fallout New Vegas, so I’m pretty familiar with the lore. I’m curious how accessible the TV series is to someone who hasn’t played the games as I expect that it’s a totally different experience.

I just wanted to say that I am not a video gamer, but liked this series a lot. It had sci-fi horror comedy and good production. And Walton Goggins. "But, as luck would have it, he stood up. He caught that chunk of lead." Gunnery Sergeant Carlos Hathcock "If there's one thing this last week has taught me, it's better to have a gun and not need it than to need a gun and not have it." Holding off so far on S2. No reason really, the first season was great, just not in a rush. Seems like they actually pulled off a TV series that is as good as its source material. Sure makes me wish Halo had at least one more season, but that's another thread. Oh, speaking of such things, how about Crysis the series? Now there's a thought.

I liked the first season. Its plot didn't really make sense, but the individual episodes were fun. The scene that really stood out for me, though, was when The Ghoul was using Lucy as bait. She exclaimed that he can't do this, because of the golden rule. His reply: “Yeah, well, the wasteland’s got its own golden rule ... 'Thou shalt get sidetracked by bullshit every goddamn time.'” They perfectly nailed the overall tone of the games. I hate offended people. They come in two flavours - huffy and whiny - and it's hard to know which is worst. The huffy ones are self-important, narcissistic authoritarians in love with the sound of their own booming disapproval, while the whiny, sparrowlike ones are so annoying and sickly and ill-equipped for life on Earth you just want to smack them round the head until they stop crying and grow up. - Charlie Brooker

I'm gonna rewatch Season 1 and let a few episodes of 2 get dropped. _______________________________ The artist formerly known as AllenInWV
