I still play Fallout 3 on my Series X.
You don't need to play the game to appreciate the show.
But the easter eggs are fun.
Nuka Cola
Yum Yum Devil Eggs
Stimpacks
Cram
Syringer Gun
The Ripper!

Little things to tip a hat at
But every time I see a bobble head, I think Take it for the perk!

And that only scratches the surface. Sound effects, music, magazines etc. etc.

The show certainly isn’t “cinema” so to speak but damn if it doesn’t respect the fans and the source material. It’s probably the best video game to other media jump I’ve ever seen.

Sure there are a few lore changes etc. and I am sure some folks will lament some things left out but all in all, when you consider how many times properties are literally raped for their name “COUGH WITHOUT REMORSE!!!” It is so refreshing when one comes along and doesn’t completely shit the bed or “subvert your expectations” to be edgy.

Two Pip Boy thumbs up from me.

Overall I enjoyed the show. I was disappointed by the portrayal of the Brotherhood as stupid comic book bad guys because I'm a big BoS (Brotherhood of Steel) fan. I think they could have dialed back the silly humor about 20% and it would have gone from good to great.

The only “humor” scene I could have done without is the lost control flying power armor. That was way too slapstick and looked pretty bad.

As for the BoS, I think they were played fairly well. The problem with adapting a role playing game is part of the joy of playing is making the world what you think of it and when it is adapted to another medium certain aspects will be lost on viewers because it’s not really the same world “they played” or “read” in the case of the books.

The ending has me super excited for season 2.

Personally, I loved the way they did the Vault Tec back story. I've only played Las Vegas and the mobile vault building game, so is what they presented in the show described in other places in the franchise?

Well, "country guy with an edge" is really the only character Walton Goggins ever plays. He's great at it, for sure. But he's definitely heavily typecast. So every role is going to feel similar, to one extent or another.

Should see his characters in Sons of Anarchy, Fatman, Vice Principals, and his role as Jack Vincennes in LA Confidential. Definitely a step away from the "country boy with an edge".

Watched the first two episodes last night and enjoyed it. Interesting to see that wokeness is still alive and well 200 years into the future when the knight referred to the character “Dane” as they/them.

The threat of death by radiation poisoning, feral ghouls, raiders, super mutants and an assortment of irradiated monsters isn't enough to make people forget about proper gender identification. By the way, has anyone ever seen a female super mutant?

watched the whole thing. played fallout since 1. Been a fan of the universe. The show aint that bad. Many critics are pointing on random things that don't mix with "canon". Yeah that doesn't work in movies or high production series. I think they did a pretty good job making the universe come to life, while not requiring you to have played all the games 100 times. The storyline..eh its not bad but not all that great. The whole parallel many stories/character sets doing the story things at the same time is a little tiresome, but how plots progress now in a tv series..

Ill watch season 2 if they make one, be a shame to let the universe go. Also, the red rocket truck stop making a scene or two. good enough for me Smile

Yes. They are in the games. They don’t look any different (except for the dress).

I’m 5 episodes in and really liking it.

Yep. There are a few identified female super mutants, including a companion from Fallout New Vegas named Lilly.

The thing is, Super Mutants lose their sexual dimorphism during the mutation process. So males and females are alike in appearance, sound, and build.

Never played the game, so I’m a little lost on all the background story. The show is watchable about 4 episodes in. I’m betting that playing the game would enhance the show tremendously but I’m confident that won’t happen with me.

I loved the season. I haven’t played the game since Fallout 4 but I thought they did a great job keeping to the look, lore, humor, violence, etc of the game. I didn’t expect Johnathon Nolan to drop the ball but it shows what can be done when shows like this and Last of Us are put into good directors hands who are fans of the source material and have the game studios on board to make sure the feel is on point.

Just look at the Borderlands trailer to see what happens when you take mature game material and try to bubblegum it. I loved Borderlands but cringed for the movie adaptation as I’ve never seen a trailer scream louder “I want to be Guardians of the Galaxy soooo bad”!

I see a few people mentioning maybe jumping into the game. The games aren’t a continuing story so you can play any of them as they all start with a pretty universal start of you coming up from 200 years underground and exploring that games part of the country where that vault is located.

With that being said, with the success of the show Bethesda teamed up with Amazon to give away the latest fallout game, Fallout 76 from 2018, for free until May 18th for PC and XBOX players. Click here for instructions to claim the game. enjoy!

Well, not all.

You aren't a Vault Dweller in Fallout New Vegas, nor in Fallout Tactics.

But you're correct about Fallout 1/2/3/4.

I wish SO MUCH that Halo had been given the same consideration and thoughtfulness that Amazon gave Fallout. I give it two "okey-dokey"'s from me.
