Season 1 is now available.

Watched the first two episodes last night and I was really impressed. Pretty faithful to the games and world lore. Good special effects. Looking forward to the rest of the season.

I can’t wait. I grew up playing Wasteland and then its spiritual successor Fallout and love the lore, dark humor, aesthetic etc of those games.

I’ve enjoyed several Elder Scrolls games and Skyrim was pretty great. I am playing Starfield now and it’s just “ok”. The Fallout single player series from the very beginning has been right in my wheelhouse.

Watched episode one last night. I am loving it so far. The definitely seemed to have paid attention to the details and created a new story. Apparently it has already been renewed for a 2nd season.

This is one of those rare times when I saw the trailer and just knew it was going to be soooo good.

Now, I wish I could say the same for the upcoming Borderlands movie. In the meantime, I'll enjoy this series.

Anyone else feel like Goggins is channeling a bit of Boyd Crowder in the ghoul role?

Well, "country guy with an edge" is really the only character Walton Goggins ever plays. He's great at it, for sure. But he's definitely heavily typecast. So every role is going to feel similar, to one extent or another.

35 minutes in and this show is on point!!! They have so far nailed it. The aesthetic, the fan service, the humor, the violence etc. I am honestly a little shocked at how strong this is out of the gate.

It's ok. I'm on episode 2, but it seems like a lot of Todd Howard brand 'Member Berries, and I'm hearing rumblings they've changed a lot of core lore, but I'm trying to avoid any spoilers.

I tell ye what though, I never liked the direction the games were going after 2. There was progress being made in the wasteland. The NCR was bringing back civilization, same with Vault City, and San Francisco. Things were being built, stuff recycled and repaired, like you'd expect 160ish years after a nuclear holocaust. Then Bethesda gets the property and folks have yet to rediscover the mysteries of the broom, or that living amongst raider corpses is bad. I get they're going for an esthetic, they want a certain atmosphere, but you can do thatvwithout living at the city dump.

Here’s a question or two for you all Fallout fans:
I’ve played computer games since the mid 80s and spent probably thousands of hours dealing with different RPG from the early no graphics Wizardry until i basically got tired of the common mechanics of these games. As a result, i am well aware that i conciously skipped the Fallout series and all i know is that it’s been there for a LOOONG time so it must be good.

Do i need to be familiar with it to enjoy the Streaming Series or not? Will it make me grab my xbox and start playing it? if so, where should i start?

Thanks

I don't think you need to have played Fallout in order to enjoy the series, though there are a lot of cool little references to stuff in the game.

As for which to play, I loved Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas. I heard Fallout 4 was great as well.

Fallout 1 and 2 are older (1990s) isometric turn-based RPGs on PC. You can't play those on your Xbox.

There's also Fallout Tactics on PC, but it's focused almost exclusively on combat rather than RPG storytelling. It's a tactical turn based isometric shooter, kinda like Xcom set in the Fallout universe.

From there, the next three games - Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas, and Fallout 4 - are first person shooter/RPGs from the late 2000s and 2010s. Same themes and overarching world, but different kind of game to 1 and 2. These are available on Xbox One and Xbox Series S/X.

Of these three, I think Fallout: New Vegas is the best. The only caveat is that the graphics are getting a bit dated now.

Fallout 4 is almost as good, and as the latest one it is a little more polished, with a better engine and current gen graphics. I'd likely recommend starting there.

Fallout 3 is third best.

So if you want to get into Fallout games on your Xbox, I'd start with 4, then consider New Vegas, then maybe 3.

Other than some shared worldbuilding and mechanics, and some inside jokes and easter eggs, the various games are not connected. You don't need to play them in any particular order.

Mechanics of the games are the basic same same RPG. Shoot/loot/level rinse repeat. The Fallout “universe” is just so damn cool and the games do a great job of telling the story through various means and encouraging exploration. The aesthetic is awesome and the 50s style and humor juxtaposed with the violence makes for a fun game world. There are some great stories and characters in the games as well.

If you watch the show without any knowledge of the games you might come away with it being a quirky post apocalyptic story, that has a little “Boy and His Dog” vibe. If you played the games you will damn near feel like you are in the story of the show.

All in all I am 5 episodes in and I think they did a damn good job adapting the material and did it with obvious love and respect.

I'll only watch it if the main character takes the cannibalism perk. Or dream crusher.

I played the game and liked it but got distracted and never put in more than 100 hours. This series is really good, it brings back lots of things that remind me of the game. Love the way they got the special effects and atmosphere correct. I think even if you never played the game you can get hooked on this. Big Thumbs Up. If you know the story you get this. I still have this on Steam and I know I am gonna take another run at it

I thought to myself "I remember that!" at least 10 times an episode.

I thought it was great. Mostly because of the nostalgia, but it was well done.
