In my Top Ten. If you ever get the chance to see this in a theater with an audience, you will find this movie has great laugh lines you may have overlooked. ___________________ Company, villainous company hath been the spoil of me.

My absolute favorite movie of all time. Of all the gin joints, in all the towns, in all the world, she walks into mine. Icarus flew too close to the sun, but at least he flew.

Objectively Reasonable![]() |
True. We saw "75th Anniversary Edition" in the theater with my father-in-law and picked up a few lines then. Saw it earlier this year in one of the oldest continuously-operating theaters in the US, and again, picked up "new" lines. It's easily my favorite Bogart film, absolutely in the top three for all movies. "Make it ten. I'm only a poor corrupt official."

The BEST movie ever made because: 1. Conflicted hero. 2. Beautiful woman. 3. Colorful cast of supporting characters. 4. Best “bad guys” ever. 5. Best dialogue lines; many of which having entered into everyday usage (“Round-up the ‘usual suspects’.”, “Play it [again Sam]”). 6. Redemption of a flawed human soul. 7. Can NEVER be remade, as societal and historical conditions have progressed too far. --------------------- DJT-45/47 MAGA !!!!! “Quidquid latine dictum sit, altum videtur.” "Sometimes I wonder whether the world is being run by smart people who are putting us on, or by imbeciles who really mean it." — Mark Twain “Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard.” — H. OK thanks. Was about to ask, but figured it was a "if you have to ask...." thing. I still don't get it. Maybe I'm too young? Sometimes I think when many people really like something artistic it's just going along with the crowd to sound sophisticated.

Bogart ad-libbed the line “Here’s looking at you, kid.” One of the best ad-libs in cinema. ___________________________________________________________________________ "....imitate the action of the Tiger."

One of my favorite films. Good story, but GREAT performances. One of the reasons that Patton is also one of my favorites. Bogart was perfect as Rick Blaine; Scott became Patton. "I vowed to myself to fight against evil more completely and more wholeheartedly than I ever did before. . . . That’s the only way to pay back part of that vast debt, to live up to and try to fulfill that tremendous obligation." Alfred Hornik, Sunday, December 2, 1945 to his family, on his continuing duty to others for surviving WW II.

Probably the movie I've watched the most. We hardly ever watch movies anymore but Casablanca is the go to every other year or so. "Nature scares me" a quote by my friend Bob after a rough day at sea.

Be prepared for loud noise and recoil![]() |
Ebert put it nicely. Citizen Kane is the best movie, Casablanca is his favorite movie. I love them both. I have them on 4k because the tides of streaming are ever shifting. “Crisis is the rallying cry of the tyrant.” – James Madison "Keep your fears to yourself, but share your courage with others." - Robert Louis Stevenson

I’ll add, and fans know this, it was a standard, paint by numbers studio picture. But something happened to make it great. “Crisis is the rallying cry of the tyrant.” – James Madison "Keep your fears to yourself, but share your courage with others." - Robert Louis Stevenson

I recall reading that they were considering casting Ronald Reagan as Rick. Glad that didn’t happen. Calmer than you are

| No More Mr. Nice Guy |
This past spring we were on a cruise that stopped in Casablanca. The cruise had two film professors on board who gave a series of talks all about the movie, and showed the movie in the theater. The big screen experience really is worth it for this movie! Btw, the city itself is a bit of a disappointment. It was interesting to see, but not more than that.

Also my favorite film. The lighting and the cinematography do not get the credit they deserve. Pragmatism: the relentless pursuit of seeing things as they really are.
