Listened to Joni’s album, Blue, this afternoon. What do you post when each song offers so much?

I’m gonna blow this damn candle out
I don't want nobody comin' over to my table
I got nothing to talk to anybody about
All good dreamers pass this way some day
Hidin' behind bottles in dark cafes
Dark cafes
Only a dark cocoon before I get my gorgeous wings
And fly away
Only a phase these dark cafe days

I chose this one

I thought of this song this morning. “Act Naturally” was the first #1 record for Buck Owens and the Buckaroos. In film recordings like this it’s easy to see just how close Don Rich (band leader, guitar player and close friend) and Buck were. Don was killed in a motorcycle accident in 1974. Buck begged him not to ride down to meet his family for a vacation, and in fact had been after him to quit riding for quite awhile. Buck never spoke about Don’s death until the late 90s, when he said in an interview.

“He was like a brother, a son, and a best friend. Something I never said before, maybe I couldn't, but I think my music life ended when he died. Oh yeah, I carried on and I existed, but the real joy and love, the real lightning and thunder is gone forever."

Act Naturally, Buck Owens and Don Rich

It’s too bad they didn’t have film of Mick Taylor playing the leads on this one. Taylor always said that he and Jagger wrote this one, that Richards was nowhere around. Among my favorites.

Note to Self: Just because I like some obscure song does not mean it's a "classic."
