That's how he drove in F1, too. IIRC it was Jackie Stewart that had the 'don't get on the throttle until you don't have to come off' philosophy. I remember that fro. Top Gear with James May.
It's pretty standard instruction from coaches as Top Gear US repeated that when Boris Said taught Adam Ferrara how to stop driving like a New Yorker.
It's also something I did a lot in Gran Turismo and Forza Motorsport since I ran automatics and had issues when the transmission wanting to upshift in a corner (another no-no) causing me to crash.
