Higher quality construction. Better materials. More durable. Open bottom that doesn't fill up with debris/brass. Doesn't crack and collapse during ground fighting or urban/rollover prone shooting (like the 7s can/will). Smoother draw/reholstering. Downsides are a wider gap around the trigger guard on some models, potentially greater finish wear from the suede lining if dirt/grit gets embedded in it, and slightly higher cost.

I’ve got both as do most of us. Once you go 6xxx you will never willingly go back to 7’s, besides the price tag. When the Feds were dropping the USPc for the FFDO program (went to G19) they basically were giving away the 7 series holster. I bought like 3 or 4 of them for a couple 20 dollar bills. They work for the USPc and for the P30 and if I remember correctly the P2000 as well. It was like a trifecta of holster happiness. Plus if I end up on the ground with somebody my day is a lot worse than a cracked holster. So my “battle belt/comp” setup uses a P30 in a 7 series. Cheap, safe, and robust enough for this old guy.

We actually broke a 6360 in ground fighting training this year. There was no gun in it at the time, and I think that may have been a factor as having something in there would have provided additional support to prevent it from flexing beyond its capabilities. Going forward, I'm going to make sure everybody has a blue gun holstered if they're going to roll with gear on. The holster got crushed under two officers who fell pretty forcefully onto the mat, and it broke the ALS retention piece inside the holster where it engages the slide, and also cracked the outer shell of the holster at the mouth, right behind and below where the mag release button would be on a holstered gun. Safariland would not cover it (didn't really expect them to but I had to ask), so we had to buy a new one. As to the open bottom...yes, you can remove the circular plug so that debris (flying range brass, anyone?) doesn't get stuck in there, but I've found that doing so tears the shit out of the seats in your car. When the plug is installed it spreads the weight and contact points of the holster out over a wider area and provides a smoother profile. With the plug out, the narrow edges of the opening grate against the fabric of your car seats and chew them up very quickly. It only took about a month with the plug out to start wearing a hole in the seat of my Durango...I put it back and the wear stopped and the hole never got any worse. I'd been in that car for three or four years before I took the plug out, and the seat was fine until I did. ----------------------------------------------------------- Any comments made by this poster are my own and do not reflect the views or opinions of my employer.

Interesting. I've never encountered or even heard of the body of a 6 series cracking, whereas it's a known issue with the 7 series cracking along the seam. I've only ever encountered rare failures of the mount screws on 6 series, especially when paired with the QLS. Though that sounds like an extreme scenario, with two guys falling on an empty holster. We havent had any issues with uncapped 6 series holsters unduly wearing seats. And I'm skeptical of the presence/absence of the cap being the culprit, as it's recessed down inside the opening so all the edges of the holster body are still exposed anyway...

As was the case when we looked at pedropcola's holster pics in that other thread, apparently they're not all the same. Our end caps are flush fit with the base, and smooth. And I agree...the conditions necessary to break that holster were extreme enough to be an outlier. We've done a lot of abusive training with them over the years and that's the first one I've ever seen break. ----------------------------------------------------------- Any comments made by this poster are my own and do not reflect the views or opinions of my employer.

Mine looks like this one too.. perhaps a design change along the way from Safariland.. ------------------------------------------------ 9/11/01 Never Forget "In valor there is hope" - Tacitus

When is the G20 Gen 6 coming? I'll wait patiently.

For real?![]() |
I believe the gen6 blue label price will be the same as the gen5 blue label MOS prices. So no gen6 for $398.20. lol We had the 6360 but a LT (who retired less than a year later) complained about the big finger sized gaps and forced us to switch to the 7360 holsters. Which, yeah, it's harder to get an adult finger in there but there's still a gap. We haven't really had any issues with holsters breaking. We're constantly losing the optic covers. My first duty holster was a 295 in leather. I miss that thing. lol They're trying to force me into an administrative role next year and said I can do away with the full duty belt, but I said nah, I'm keeping it because I'm still going to be going out into the field. The LT and assistant chief just yelled at me last week for "starting" a pursuit in the middle of a snow storm. They said Sergeants should not be doing traffic stops. lol Not minority enough!

I am with you on this. I have been hoping for a newer design of the beaver tail and FINALLY Glock listened. The downside now is I have a few other clone types, that corrected the issues I have wanted and really don't need another but I am sure I will get one eventually.

^ I don’t know if a permanent beavertail is needed. I like the concept of the modular grip. You want a beavertail, you got one. You don’t- don’t put it on. ______________________________________________________________________ "When its time to shoot, shoot. I'm predicting the beaver tail will go away mid Gen 6 refresh. This is much like gen 5, removed the half moon on the grip and added front serrations. ------------------------------------------------ 9/11/01 Never Forget "In valor there is hope" - Tacitus

The half moon keeps coming back and keeps eventually going away because it tears people’s fingers up. The beaver tail won’t. The front slide serrations came about with the MOS so people could grab the side without grabbing their optics, these weren’t changes purely for aesthetics, they had functional reasons. Deleting the beaver tail partway through production would be purely to satisfy the people who find it objectionable for aesthetic reasons. I don’t see that happening. ______________________________________________ "If the truth shall kill them, let them die.” Endeavoring to master the subtle art of the grapefruit spoon.

I'm probably one of the only ones who actually liked the half-moon cutout on the early Gen 5s, solely because my only early Gen 5 Glock is a G19 and the only other G19 I owned was a Gen 2 which also has the half moon cutout. Thus all my spare G19 mags already had the Pearce replacement baseplate with the extension that fills in the half moon cutout in the frame, but I didn't have to split my G19 mag stash between mags for the Gen 2 and for the Gen 5 since they can all be used in either.

If you don't like the beaver tail there's an easy solution: Would have been a lot less scary to do to a replaceable grip module than the actual frame, though ----------------------------------------------------------- Any comments made by this poster are my own and do not reflect the views or opinions of my employer.

RxM master race. Just kidding I like the look of the Gen 6, though I must admit, them going back on the dual recoil spring is kind of a bummer. I'm betting the DRS was initially for .40 S&W and with that so reduced in popularity, there's no reason to keep it across the platform. Extractor changes to accommodate the new optic system is long overdue.

I haven't been a glock guy (but I did buy a few anyways) mainly due to the grip. Glocks are also just about the only pistols I didn't jive with and I have sold a few. The good part is if you want to part with a Glock, I can sell it on my local board in one day. I look forward to seeing if this one fits me any better. Ben Stoeger got his hands on one. I have split a 6 series open along the seam with a screwdriver to remove a rock on training holsters and such, but that is after hardcore fighting and rolling around. I would be very surprised to see more than cosmetic damage to a Safariland 6000.

I only wish I could get a Gen6 Glock 31 in 357 SIG, but dreams are cheap and free we’ll have to fantasize about one.
