I'm sure big brother has access to more reliable sources than a known list of manufacturer serial numbers and their related manufacture dates.

Hardly, many of the serials were posted by members that observed the number in on-line auctions or at local gun shops. A great number have changed hands, possibly many times. The correlation of serials to years is a great benefit to me but would be of little value to Big Brother.

P229 Two-tone .40 S&W, triple serial numbers, AA 11XXX, and the very same German proof marks shown in the pic/chart on the very first post in this thread but with the letters "KD" (which would be '93 according to that pic/chart). . . were some of the early 229's German made? Thanks

I just stumbled on this post. Very interesting info! I've owned my P220 for about 7 years and, just after reading this post noticed the "W" in "MADE IN W GERMANY". I thought that was pretty cool.

Anyway...

Black P220
JF (1985)
G 136 XXX

Shoots like a dream. I've had some issues with the slide not locking all the way forward so the extractor doesn't grab the cartridge, but that's only if I hinder the action by holding it, etc. I bought it from a dealer here in Northern CA under consignment. They were selling it for $699, but the guy misquoted and told me it was $599. He stuck to that price. Hard to find that kind of service any more! This is my wife's favorite of my guns. I'd say it is a strong 2nd for me.
