A few hours before the whole “V” thing spread across the internet, I picked up this Gen 5 19. I still have my Gen 2 and Gen 4 19, sold my Gen 3 a while back and kind of wish I hadn’t. It would be neat to have one of every generation. I’ve been carrying the Gen 4 all summer. This one feels much nicer in the hand, and a better trigger. I have some Ameriglos arriving in the morning, and a bin full of loaded magazines ready for a range trip tomorrow night. If it runs like I figure it should, it’ll be my new carry gun.

I like the Gen 5 Glocks a lot. I need to find a 47 and then I’ll have everything I think I’ll have use for in the full frame size 9’s.

I was just watching an episode of Miami Vice. IMFDB says that the episode aired January 1987. And Crockett took a Glock off a Cuban paramilitary.

But he never bought a Glock.

The Glock 17 was introduced in the early 1980's, so that would fit. I don't know anything about the original except that Soldier Of Fortune Magazine thought it was so bad that they wanted all our enemies armed with it, or words to that effect.

Agreed with this. I took out the pic to avoid it being too big of a nested reply. I really enjoy the gen 5's. Have a 45, 19, and 26. I also need to pick up a 47.

I did a thing. Didn’t really plan on buying a 19X, but a guy defaulted on his lay-away at work and this was going back out on the floor. I was kind of enamored with this edition when I saw them earlier this year and for the price, couldn’t say no. The fact that I already had an FDE RMR kind of sealed the deal. So now I have a peanut butter Glock again. Can looks massive, but it’s 9oz with the mount, so it actually balances pretty well. And yes, I see now that the beaver tail wasn’t fully seated when I took the pics. Razz

My buddy and I took a road trip to the GlockStore yesterday in Nashville. We had been talking about going forever, and it’s only a couple hours away, so we made the trip. Lots of Glocks to look at, lots of red dots mounted to compare, and literally every accessory you could imagine. Long story short, I got to handle and play with a Gen 6 19!!!!! To say I’m impressed is an understatement!! The grip is so much more “better”, more ergonomic, and not at all similar to the Glock we are used to. The texture is amazing!!! It had cocking serrations, but they were deeper at the top for more grip. I’ll buy the first 19 and 45 that I see at normal retail price!

Not a good price, but I had a gift card burning a hole in my pocket. Here it is with the 19X. Definitely a shinier finish. I hope it holds up.

I had to get one for mine but was skeptical about aftermarket attachments like this, especially with the metal pin. From prior experience, the beaver tail attachments never really fit right or seemed loose/unstable. I have to say, after getting it, I am pleasantly surprised. It fits on the frame really well and seems very solid.

Now my slide is off to Lenny to get an optic cut.

picked up my gen6 19 today. The beavertail doesn't feel that big like in the pictures. The gun fits my hand really well. Waiting till later tonight and will break it in with some coworkers.

Congrats Chowser! I’m patiently awaiting mine to arrive. I guess blue labels are taking longer. I don’t think anyone would mind a pic or two of your new pistola. I know they all look the same but I for one never get tired of looking at em.

Mine was blue label. I ordered it on 12/12/25.

They called me this morning to tell me it was in.

I did my best to take a pic with decent lighting that shows the palm swell. ignore my speed. there was no traffic ahead or behind me. lol

Does the thumb rest area on the frame in front of the trigger guard interfere with non Gen 6 G19 or G17 holsters?

That looks great, Chowser! Thank you.

Yooper, no, that area is actually smaller and stippled. There is less mass there. Everything I’ve read says the gen 6 fits other holsters made for former gens.

If you have a kydex/formed holster, it will only fit gen5 or above. the ambi slide stop lever gets in the way on gen4 and older holsters.

edit-->

grabbed an osight c i was given. window is huge. i might still switch it to an RMR since I am used to the RMR. I put Ameriglo GL-429 iron sights on it which I think is too high. But it was the shortest I can find that I can view in the window. Haven't shot it with the optic yet but yesterday we put 1000 trouble free rounds through it between four people.

I'll zero it this weekend and try a few hundred more rounds. I might actually carry this without the optic and buy some Ameriglo Hacks on it.

Well, it's been about 15 years since I last added to this thread, and somewhere along the line I kinda stupidly let that great little G26 go. It's been a few years, and I unexpectedly had to drive an extra 50 miles because the first store I went to was closed for SHOT show, but as of today I have another Glock in the house again...this time a 43X MOS.

I've been thinking about dipping my toe in the micro-nine pool for a while now, but I have big hands and none of those guns seem to work for me. I had a P365 for a bit but got rid of it because it kept shifting around in my grip so much that I was getting trigger slap. Over Christmas I went to my brother's house and both he and my other brother brought out their G43Xs, and I realized that they were just big enough for me to be able to actually get the palm of my support hand onto the grip.

I tried a few others: Shield X, Springfield Hellcat, H&K CC9, and even a Wilson Combat grip module for a P365...all too small. The G43X is that perfect size of being just big enough without any extra. I can establish a firm two-handed grip, and my hand fills the grip all the way to the base but doesn't interfere with the mags dropping free.

It's not perfect. The grip texture is woefully inadequate and even though I can get both hands on the gun better than the other options, it still slides around a bit under recoil. The grip angle also sucks and produces a tendency for me to point the gun high. I adapted to it pretty quickly, though...enough that after my range session today when I pulled out my optic-equipped P229 the dot was out of the window low Mad. I'm hoping to mitigate these issues with a GritGrips frame when they become available. They had them out at SHOT show, so hopefully they're not too far out.

10 round mags are kind of a bummer, but I'm not sure I want to go down the Shield Arms path. My brother has had some problems with his, they're expensive, and 10 rounds that work every time is preferable to 15 that might not, IMO.

Recoil is snappy, but manageable. I can feel it in the web of my hand, but I was surprised how quickly I could make followup shots on the Bakersfield drill. Scores weren't amazing, but good enough for my first day out with such a small gun in the conditions (6 degrees with a wind chill of who knows what, drawing with gloves on from under a sweatshirt and massive coat).

Trigger is fine, accuracy is fine, reliability is fine. It's a Glock.

I'm pretty settled on the GritGrips frame, when they become available. Other than that I may mount an optic, although I'm not 100% sure on that yet as the point is the small footprint. If I decide to forego the optic I'll probably replace the Glock plastic sights with something better. And I need to make a holster, buy a few more mags, and shoot it a bunch.

First mag at 7 yards:

Two runs on the Bakersfield qual using krtraining's scoring rubric. 1st run was an 81, second was an 88. I had a couple of wild shots, but my times on the reload stage are what really killed me. I don't feel too bad about it considering I was trying to pull a mag out of a pouch that it didn't fit in from under multiple heavy layers with frozen fingers inside of gloves.

I ran it on the plate rack a few times from 15 and 20 yards, and also tried the postal match challenge. Probably put 100 rounds through it today total without a hiccup, and that was enough. Taking my gloves off to load mags out there was physically painful.

It's nice to be have a Glock back in the stable again and I'm looking forward to working with and carrying this gun. It's probably not the micro-nine I'd recommend for everybody, but I think it's going to work for me.
