Beretta 92. The 92 came to the fleet about the same time I did. Although I rarely got to shoot one. When I started my LE career, we had to buy our own guns. The research ultimately led me to the P226. And later to this joint. I carried a P226 until I got on the regional tactical team which led to the Glock 35. Then to a 17. Through my career I’ve carried several guns through different phases. Most were brief early in my career. ________________ People hate you. Train like it.

Smith and Wesson Model 66-1, 2.5 inch barrel. That was in 1979. Then we went to a 4 inch Model 66-2, 3 inch Model 13-4, Beretta 92F, Sig P229 (.40), Sig P239 (40) and finally Kimber 3 inch 1911.

My first carry handgun was the Browning BDA, .45 ACP P220. When I served with the sheriff's department in Louisiana (1985-89), I carried a Colt Diamondback .38 special and a Smith model 27 .357 magnum. My off duty was a Smith 57 with a 4" barrel. When I was on the DHS civilian contractor call list, I kept a Glock 31 with me at all times.

Colt 1911 in 45. It was a re built US property pistol originally made in 1944. It was parkerized and had a beavertail, commander hammer, ed brown safety, S&A magwell and meprolight night sights. With it I had 25 rounds of ammo, 26 inches of hickory and a pair of black gloves. Now I have twice as much gear, and no increase in capabilities. ***************************** "I don't own the night, I only operate a small franchise" - Author unknown

Personal purchase 4" Royal Blue Colt Python carried in a basketweave Safariland Mod. 29 hi-ride loaded with the 'Chicago load' lead flat nosed hollow point rounds, changed to Glaser safety slugs and finally Silvertips (yes, all issued based on someone's study). Later an issued S&W 659 with 147 gr +P+ hollow points followed by the 5906 and a 5946(because someone had an AD causing the rest of us to carry a DAO) finally retiring after carrying a Glock 22C in god awful 40 S&W giving a wonderful light show after dark (who needs a flashlight when you have a compensated 40?) I still miss my Python.

My first issued firearm as an Army counterintelligence agent in a land far away was a Colt Detective Special, 2"; although not formally issued, I also had an M16. When I switched to law enforcement in Army CID it was a 2" S&W model 10. ► 6.0/94.0 “I can’t give you brains, but I can give you a diploma.” — The Wizard of Oz

First issued a Gen 3 G22, then a Gen 4 G17, and now a Gen 5 G19. I also carried a personally owned P320C as a duty gun for a time. Initial personally owned backup gun was a S&W 642, then a Kahr CM9, and then a Sig P365. But I no longer carry a backup gun.

First agency was the Beretta 92SF Second agency was the Sheriffs Office where I was issued a worn out and abused Sig P229 in .40. Later I got issued a brand new Sig P229 (also without a rail) Thus began my love affair of the 229. Third department was the Beretta M9. I then went to the BIA and was posted to Wyoming when I got back from AFG. We were issued the Glock 22. (Later when I returned to the BIA during COVID we went to the Glock 19) Then a short stint with an agency before having to relocate to NC. We were issued the Glock 21.This message has been edited. Colt 1911 and two extra mags carried in the back left side of my survival vest. I always thought the bulk interfered with my left (throttle) arm, but never seemed to notice it once airborne. Since it rode flat on the rib cage, I always wondered how many ribs I'd break if I had to eject. We transitioned to the M9 in 1996 on my last cruise. Interestingly, we were issued 1911s in 1994 when we did a 3 week detachment out of Darwin, Australia. While suiting up for our first flight, the Aussie lead asked what we were carrying. He laughed when I proudly showed him my 1911. I asked "Well what the hell are you guys carrying?" and he pulled a .50 Desert Eagle out of his vest. He told us "If that's all your carrying, mate, then if you jump out you'd better find a tree and get in it quickly, and save the last round for yourself." My first issued gun in the academy was a S&W M-15...which I only used for inspection and non-firearms training. I carried a personally purchased Colt Python. It was an ex-CHP pistol (they had previously had to purchased their own sidearms and had just been issued new S&W M-68 ) I got it with a 6" barrel (CHP requirement) and had the barrel switched to a 4" tube (SD requirement) when I had the action tuned. From there my career took me through a: 1. 1911 Colt Combat Commander 2. H&K P7 3. SIG 226 4. SIG 220 5. Beretta 96 No, Daoism isn't a religion

Academy with the S&W Model 15 in 1990, my own 686 for about a year after graduation, my own Glock 17 in 92', Dept. 5904 in about 94', my own Glock 22 in 2001, Dept. G22 in 2007 until retirement in 2017. Sometime in the mid to late 2000's I did our Dept. Qual course with my P226 Navy. I didn't shoot it any better than my G22. But by then, I had countless years on the Glock platform including 3 years of competitive shooting. Watch & Pray

First civilian LE job 1991, issued Sig P220, .45ACP. Carried my entire career on the road. Just finished building my W German repro from spare parts collect throughout the years. Man that DA/SA trigger is an art form. That gun served me well.
