What? you mean people aren't flocking to pay 8 bucks for a crappy cup of coffee served by a surly blue-haired non-binary type anymore? Who didn't see this coming?

I've noted here recently that the lines out to the street in the double-drive-thru lanes at my local McDonald's a year or two ago are gone now too. Each time I drive past it, they're empty.

I read that they recently changed the ice too and it's a whole lot more in each iced drink now.

I haven't bought one in a long time, mainly because the hot coffee tastes burnt, and the cold drinks have enough sugar to kill a cow.

Wife wanted one and drove through this weekend, not a sole in line in the drive through, used to be you couldn't pull in without a line.

IF you have a hankering for those fru-fru mochafrappalattenosoynowhipextrashot drinks try WaWA, bigger drinks, better flavor no rainbow warriors.

Leftist actions will drive the coining of the phrase 'unintended but obvious consequences' to differentiate from historical "unintended" but largely unpredictable consequences.

I'm actually surprised as the 2 I drive past have full parking lots and drive thru lines every morning and every afternoon.

Monday, I didn't have coffee before my doctor's appointment so I grabbed Starbucks afterward at the further away of the two. It was mid-morning and the drive thru had a line.

Today, I had tacos for lunch next door to the closer Starbucks. My table had a view of their drive thru and there was a long line the entire time I ate lunch.

I have never stepped foot in one except for my last two stays recently at a Marriott Courtyard. It's the only option.

I always get up and go get a coffee and a tea for the wife. $10 bucks. I asked if there any options for coffee besides buying at starbucks. Lady at the desk snidely said "in your room"

When I want coffee I either go to my local McD's (where as a senior I can still get a cup for under $1) or Panera, which has free refills and better food than Starburnts.

The only Starfucked I ever drink is just after Christmas when their seasonal coffee goes on clearance at Sam’s club. These 2+ pound bags were only about 9 dollars; that’s less than the cheapest garbage beans you can get at the grocery store. It does my heart good to see how little of it sells when it’s at full price. From what I can research, I obtain it for less than it cost Starbucks to bring it to market so I feel good I’m helping them lose money. I hate to say it, but it is excellent… it’s even better when some leftist barista isn’t handing it across the counter for a $5 cup as plain old coffee..

Around here the lines are still out in the street. I haven't been to one in many years, and will never go again!

Yes, McDonald's coffee is surprisingly good. It's my first choice if I'm out running errands and get a sudden yearn for coffee. Dunkin' is another decent coffee place at (relatively) reasonable cost.

Never liked starbucks, too dark. even the pike roast.

love dunkin but their creamer is too sugary.

signed up for panera's coffee plan back when the virus started for $8/mo. Coffee was ok but I've switched to their unsweetened iced tea. Plan is now $15/mo but I get that back usually in one day.

Every time I drive past (usually two to three times a day), I'll swing in and grab a cup. When they had their outage, I would walk in and they'd just hand me a cup. My face is known.

Seems a bit myopic to directly relate the cost of a cup of coffee to the overall success/failure of a company.
True, pricing is always a factor but there are a plethora of other factors that always make the difference.
We don't know what all those factors exactly are but it ain't just the price of a cup of coffee.
There is a relationship to demand but businesses and industries change over the years.
I would say it has more to do with all the inflation and there is much more competition now days or maybe how they manage their expenses.

I would add to that all the wage increases happening around the country, too. Many fast-food places are losing money.

One down the street from work just went out.

Bye!

I prefer the local coffee joints anyway.
