chellim, stop deleting your posts when I'm trying to respond to them. For fuck's sake, this is frustrating!!! The net result of you doing that is to confuse readers of the thread and to make me look like I'm speaking to the last person who posted before me.

Guys, if you had simply done what I asked- if you had simply refrained from bringing any of that shit in here, do you think we'd have this lovely thread? If you had simply done what I asked and left all that crap out of here, then it would be just another day around here. Instead, all of this has brought me to the point that closing this forum is a viable solution. How 'bout just doing what I ask when it comes to this forum? You think it's unreasonabe that I won't let this shit be discussed here? Oh, I forgot- the story is "so big", it can't be ignored. It must be tough, having only several hundred places online where you could go to waste your time talking about this nonsense. Yes, the gall of me, the unmitigated gall of trying to stay out of this insanity. What ever must be going through my head to not allow this "BIG" story in here? "Well, everyone else is talking about it!!" Fine. I don't speak for them. They don't speak for me.

Speaking for myself, I don’t see it as abandoning but message received, idea dropped.

Let's just put that stuff away, please. It's not a solution. Members honoring my clearly stated wishes- that is the solution.

The problem with this is that a certain percentage of people are always going to fail at meeting expectations. Whether their failure is due to malice, entitlement, ignorance, or what have you, I don’t think you’ll ever see 100% compliance on these parameters you’ve established. I think that’s just the reality of dealing with people and it forces your hand to be reactionary towards that group. Most of us can follow directions, most of the rest not in that first group can likely be “self-policed” as we’ve seen in some cases, but some are going to require more direct attention, unfortunately.

How long have I been doing this, thumper? How long have I been moderating this and other forums, day in, day out?

Is there much that I haven't seen in places such as this, in the way of human behavior?

How many members have I subjected to disciplinary action? How many have I banned? How many exchanges of such a nature have I had, both in the forum and in email?

I've been called every name in the book and that's no exaggeration. I've had members threaten to come to my home and kill me. You think I'm kidding?

What have I not seen, not experienced in places such as this forum?

You say that you don't visit here as much because of "drama". Just what in the Holy Hell do you think I was trying to avoid with my prohibition on this subject? And, regarding "drama", there is nothing going on in this forum in that respect, in comparison to years past, when, for example, I banned thirty members in one single day. That's a fact. December, 2006.

Well... I can't undelete it. I would if I could.
I attempted to give an honest explanation and I was ridiculed by braillediver. It's not his place to attack me. I'll take my lumps from Para.

I have never posted directly about the riots.
But what is happening in this country permeates subjects that go beyond talking about the riots. The riots are only a small, but violent part of what has been building for a long time: politically, economically, socially, religiously. It's all inter-connected into what we used to call civil society.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

I think it's obvious - if it's related, even if not 'directly', don't post.

It really couldn't be any clearer.

C'mon guys, we can do this.

That's right- at this point, I couldn't make it any clearer, and yet, members keep tracking that shit in here.

Forget about putting up big banners that repeat what I've already said, in order to attract the attention of all members. We're talking about people who are actually participating in this thread, who simply can't manage to stop mentioning this shit. Bizarre. There's no excuse for that.

I am shocked Para still needs to drive this subject.

Seems like denser "matter" needs more effort to understand the point. Wink

Me: The subject of XYZ is off-limits in this forum

Member: I have a question about why we can't talk about XYZ

Me: We're not discussing the subject. There's no point and even if there were, I am asking you guys to refrain. You can talk about XYZ all day long, every other place on the planet AFAIC. Just not here.

Member: You know, Para, XYZ is a HUUUUUUUUUGE story.

Me: The subject of XYZ is off-limits in this forum

Member: But, XYZ is related to ABC.

Me: It doesn't matter. We're simply not discussing any of that stuff here.

I had an Aunt that required you take your shoes off before entering her house. You either accepted that or you just didn't go see her... period. You did not stand at her door and argue about it.

This is NO different.

If you want to participate in Para's house, leave that shit outside.

Whatever the internet equivalent of heads on piles mounted by the city gates MIGHT get your point across. No reasonable person could say they weren’t warned.

That's a typo, right? Otherwise, that changes the effect.

Yeah, I’m going to blame autocorrect for that one. It should’ve said “pikes.” But, if pikes doesn’t work, you may have to switch to piles. Wink
