Yes, WV has two Cabela's. Wheeling is just so far up there...the Charleston one is the only one I consider.

You say the last thing you need is another gun and yet you go to Cabelas to buy another gun. That is exactly why we are having shortages and panic buying.

Uhhh, no. Longtime gun owners and enthusiasts going out and buying a new gun like they always have is not at all why we are seeing a shortage of guns in the market today. ~Alan Acta Non Verba NRA Life Member (Patron) God, Family, Guns, Country Men will fight and die to protect women... because women protect everything else. ~Andrew Klavan

Another question about “the gun stores have plenty of guns” is What kind of guns? The place I do most of my business tells me they have been very busy, to the point that a couple of weeks ago they had a one-day record in sales. And yet, they still have plenty of guns in stock, so why is that? They told me that people are buying inexpensive, popular guns, not the high end, $1000+ variety. And then there’s the caliber thing. I put four handguns on consignment there. The P226 in 40 S&W moved first, but not as quickly as I expected. Then the 40 M&P. After several weeks the compact DAK P220 sold; I expected that one to be on the shelf until Biden was elected. (I haven’t checked; hopefully it’s not just on lay-away). Strangely (to me), the 9mm DA/SA P239 is still there. The clerk actually told me there was not a lot of demand for single stack pistols these days. And if gun stores have more flexibility in pricing, i.e., can get away with jacking prices up, that may affect the difference between their sales than the chains’. “I can’t give you brains, but I can give you a diploma.” — The Wizard of Oz This life is a drill. That surprises me too. I love the P239. But folks new to handguns/firearms probably just don't appreciate it. I would have guessed it would be one of the first to be sold.

This thread validates the reasoning behind the recent (and not so recent) threads we've had to get what you need while things are calm. I have enough guns, mags, & ammo (a fair amount of parts, too) to likely last me more years than I've got left. I don't think I bought any of it during a panic. I went to Academy to take advantage of rod/reel sale. Their spooling machine was down so I didn’t get anything. Walked by the gun counter and Th yes were cleaned out with the exception of an M&P and a couple of revolvers. Wondering how long this will keep up for. _____________

Don't Shop. Adopt. |
I was at the Scheels in Reno this last Sunday. Most of the handgun selection was wiped out. The did have a LWRC SMG45 pistol and a HK SP5 in the display case, kinda took me by surprised. Talked to one customer who just bought a handgun. Scheels would only sell him one box of ammo. Guess you have to buy a gun to get the ammo... And the guy said the background check was so backed up he had to wait two weeks to pick up his gun. I would think that at least one ! of the top one dozen gun manufacturer's would have seen an opportunity to double ( or even triple up ) on production. These periodic gun rush's have been going on for 25 years. I know it's expensive, but to be one of 10 that has three semi loads ready to ship, when gun stores are crying for merchandise , That's the would seem the place to be setting. Good thing I have the guns and ammo I need (not necessarily want) for recreation and self/home defense.

You forget that not long ago ammo had to be on rebate in order to move, and people were holding off from $300 AR15s. And unless I am mistaken, firearms are taxed upon production.

I've been in the industry since 98 and I have never seen demand like this. Keep in mind that firearms consist of dozens of parts made by multiple firms. Your Sig, Ruger, Smith etc isnt made 100% in house. If for example your spring supplier can't get you enough springs, guns aren't moving out the door. If your forecast is based upon prior years demand, and current orders, your're hosed as well. I don't have an inside source, but Remington comes to mind. Remington could be cranking out nothing but 870 defense guns right now and sell every damn one of them. Thousands, 10s of thousands. I wonder if ACME Spring, or ACME Screw CO, or ACME Buttstock CO, feels comfortable sending product to a company that has questionable finances. Food for thought. You cant just whip the horses and get more of a complex consumer durable.

I am not sure what you are saying. are you telling me that when Ruger orders 1600 parts from where ever they get them , Ruger does not write them a check , right then and there? for the goods Safety, Situational Awareness and proficiency. They do if your credit is crap. When a buyer/manufacturer gets into financial trouble, a lot of vendors will change their credit terms. Perhaps a lower credit limit, perhaps faster payment (30 days instead of 60), or if the company looks like it's in really bad shape, some companies will nix their credit line and go to C.O.D.

Credit is what makes the world go 'round, even in the gun world. Certainly our shop operates on payment terms; manufacturers are usually the tightest on allowing lengthy account terms but many distributors often will allow up to 60 days to settle account balances, with a few extending even further for those "special" high volume client businesses. Should be no surprise that a manufacturer would be getting similar treatment for any outsourced parts, materials and supplies within their sourcing channels. -MG

They do not. Nobody does. The whole world is on Net 30/60/90, or whatever. Billy Bob's Bang Bang Boutique in Bumfuck, WVA might be COD, Some manufacturing firms might be COD due to credit issues. Nobody pays today for what the receive tomorrow except consumers.

I sell mostly collectible, estates , etc, and my business has been booming, lots of folks with time on their hands, cash in the bank, and a desire for something not plastic out there, the smaller shops may not have more buying power, but don't have to deal with corporate buyers like the box stores do, so if Greentop, Town Gun, or Dances etc need a pallet of AR's, they have several wholesales to call and pick from Corporate stores (Cabela's, Bass Pro, etc) go thru a central office and are buying for 80+ stores, whatever they get goes to a central whse, and distributed, or drop shipped if that is part of the contract https://chandlersfirearms.com/chesterfield-armament/

this, Covid panic, lots of new buyers and lots of new Asian buyers, protests,,, lots of new buyers, and lot of new African American buyers, hopefully new buyers will become infected with the same strain of gunowneritis most of us have and continue down the righteous path of gunowdership https://chandlersfirearms.com/chesterfield-armament/
